This is what a President is all about. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! His SONA, addressed the negative side administration of his predecessor which of course difficult to accept by GMA's disciples truth hurts anyway. The state of the nation address (SONA) is a continuing story of a president that begins on his first year as president and ends on 2015. Here in Las Vegas I belong to a fitness center (LVAC) and to a fitness center in Angeles City. You can not compare the two because the LVAC is state of the art. To our beloved PNOY, here's one bit of advice. Look at the horizon, have a wider perspective, know where your heading, and please drive carefully. Some bastards want you to be vindictive. But I tell you, it wont get you nowhere. The best way is to make your passengers all busy contributing to make the boat move faster. Instigating the passengers to look for "who's at fault among them" is a formula for infighting and mistrust. You would be better of assigning each one a job to do and then checking on them how far they have done so far. In other words toll collected from motorists is a quirk as far as what taxes are perceived to be in this particular issue. The "Users Tax" alluded by the columnist you link and Sen. Santiago(?) to be the toll collected is a misconception because it (Users Tax) do not REFER to the toll but rather to the taxes and fees levied/imposed on motor vehicles using the roads, i.e. size and weight (the heavier the vehicles, the more wear and tear it exerts on the road, the more the owner(s) pay). Uber: You raised an interesting idea on religious conflicts. There are scholars or intellectuals (agnostics, atheists, et cetera) who're dissatisfied with religion & with the abstractions of philosophy or theology, but they didn't advocate evil acts or commit crimes against humanity, for example, the scholarly writings of Emile Durkheim on Religion, a functionalist approach & Max Weber views on religion. Both Durheim & Weber are considered the founders of Sociology; they're great social scientists.

Carmina| The issue about the Church and Galileo’s Heliocentric Theory is that it took the Church 350 years after the death of Galileo to finally admit that the Church was wrong and that the Heliocentric Theory was correct. The humiliating part of it was that Galileo Galilei was made to kneel in front of the Inquisition and admit that the heliocentric theory advanced originally by Copernicus, which Galileo accepted and embraced, was false. The Church adopted the geocentric theory of Aristotle and Ptolemy (the earth is at the center and everything revolves around it). The Church thought “it was their duty to teach people about the universe and the glory of God”. What was taught was the wrong science that pushed back man’s quest for knowledge about the universe.

But at the end of the day- Galileo was found guilty of HERESY becx he dares point out that the "scriptures" belief in geocentric teaching is wrong and should be re-written---and for his trouble in trying to make things scientifically correct --the Power-That-Be (then) of the Church labeled Galileo a Heretic (I can just imagine how scandalous that must be in the context of that time!).
