Unscathed, did you say? The man is the poster boy for corruption. He has nothing more to recover. And what is alarming is he is dragging the entire Judiciary down along with him. He is corrupt, greedy, guardian and enabler of crooks and crime syndicates like the Arroyos. We use to look up to the Supreme Court as the last bulwark of integrity. But looking at this crook Corona you just cannot put the word "integrity" in the same sentence with him. The Cancer had spread to the hypocritical catholic bishops. Look at that Oscar Cruz holding ceremonies and praying for that Corona. First it was Bernas. Now Cruz. I wonder which God, if any, these priests pray to. Arroyo, Corona, Bishops - they are the Holy Trinity of National Misery.

PNL: I love your take on Corona's impeachment. The people have to be convinced that these senators hearing the case are with the people or against the people. Like any case under litigation, the defendant always ends up being humiliated and embarrassed. It is no different from a rape case. Now prosecutors "let the cat out of the bag.". Too many properties amassed in a very short number of years of association with Gloria as a consigliore. Corona obviously became the first responder to Gloria's frantic 911 call. His response became a bane to his job! Whatever the outcome is, he is wounded, bloodied and seriously damaged. A "damaged good" indeed.

Justice Corona never had the respect of the Filipino people since his midnight appointment. The decision of his co-Arroyo appointees in the Supreme Court to uphold his appointment by virtually amending the constitution even worsened that perception. Thus, it was up to Corona to prove to the people that he was well worth the appointment. Instead, his decisions in the guise of being "collegial" in favor of the past administration placed his reputation in a steep downward slide culminating in this impeachment trial. His best recourse now is to resign to save whatever is left of his reputation, if there is still any.

The trial will allow the major issues to be properly addressed in a sober & orderly proceedings. The back & forth allegations, accusations, innuendos, insinuations & fakeries to win public opinion on both camps must end now. The lawyers must present their cases before the senators. The novena masses by the Corona camp might help. Still, it will be a very tall order for him. CJ Corona said..' Mr. President, I am Primus Inter Pares (first among equals)', well, we'll soon see. It's compounded because he's also accused of concealing his actual net worth & his 45 properties under his name, his wife, & his children. Something smells bad.

I do agree with other critics that Corona's impeachment, conviction & possible jail time will create a stronger Philippine democracy. It will restore public trust, or public confidence in the Court & continuity in constitutional & doctrinal development. In a democracy, the Courts can't escape critical denunciation: the interaction between the Constitution itself ("We The Filipino People") & an independent textual authority. "This processes ensure the continuation of critical scrutiny." It is only right & just to remove Corona from the bench because of his lacked of integrity, or judicial candor, & his ongoing role as a symbol of political & judicial corruptions. Corona's ill-gotten wealth must be returned to the Filipino people: to build modern public schools & libraries.

There's a total of 8 specific impeachment complaints against DJ Corona. This historical trial will be tried on two levels: in the court of law & in the court of public opinion. The final judgment must be based on verified facts & applicable laws. Both camps spent excessively for PR & propagandas to project good images & solicit favorable public opinion from Filipinos & the free media. Of the 95 million Pinoys, a sample representative from 1,200 people were interviewed by a commercial polling firm. Is it enough to have a direct bearing on this case?

There is now a separate investigation on the use of the WB money..Corona . of course being the CJ is being hounded by the WB..now they cannot use that money without the written approval of the World bank

It's only proper that CJ Corona should take a leave cuz his work functions are suffering. Monday, he has to explain his questionable actions, obvious partiality, one-sided intentions & absurd rulings before the senate. Example; EO no. 464 which prevented officials from testifying at legislative inquiries without GMA's approval. Likewise, executive privilege by Romulo Neri to avoid testifying about his participation on the NBN-ZTE agreement and the most absurd was the TRO issued by CJ Corona & his co-appointed tutas by GMA. He must explain his actions & prove before the senate if he's innocent or guilty as charged.

This is to remind all Filipinos concerned that the impeachment process for CJ Corona is purely a political affiliation. Aquino appointees for Chief Justice might also favor him. Judiciary must be independent and must not be dictated by the president of the Philippines. This process is dividing Filipino people. Most of the population might not understand very well and believe instantly what the govt. is presently advocating. This is very alarming condition.

CJ Corona questioned the legality of the Impeachment made by the House of Representatives. What if the Senate Impeachment Court declines to act for lack of jurisdiction? This is a judicial issue. Therefore, the Supreme Court may act thereon based on its Constitutional POWER OF JUDICIAL REVIEW.

The justices of the SC of the Philippines should have remanded the motion of the Arroyos to the lower court for the simple reason that any decision favoring the petitioner (the Arroyos) will leave a large footprint of bias. It is not unusual for judges to voluntarily recuse themselves from any legal proceeding in order to preserve the integrity of the court. In Tagalog it is called "delicadeza." Remember that Corona had to fly hurriedly to Manila from California (after watching Pacquiao's fight of course) to sign off on that controversial interlocutory order. What is legally correct could be morally wrong! Corona was testing the limits of his power as chief magistrate; he dragged his court along the way.

The editorial is indeed a wake up call for all Filipinos but all must accept that tourism generates income as one poster stated, it makes a sleepy town get up with their life. Benefactors of tourism are the prostitutes, their madams, bar employees, drivers, farmers, medical practitioners, govt. workers, mandarukots, scammers mostly known as Trapos who at times have their backs against the wall & are forced to do a project to get re-elected etc. but ultimately, tourism will impact an increas in the PH's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Maybe wrong in the eyes of others but the PH must "Double Task" double efforts to get rid off all 'dirts' as mentioned in the editiorial but it will promote starvation if the PH stop promoting tourism. This report appeared in the media: "The Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act is the title of legislation passed in the Republic of the Philippines in 1997. The purpose of the legislation is to reduce poverty by redistributing economic resources and creating institutions to implement the Social Reform Agenda. This law established the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) to serve as a coordinating and advisory body. A People's Development Trust was also created to assist government and micro-finance in implementing social reform." It is almost a decade and a half since its enactment. What happened? Good in paper, no action and no progress. What else is new? I see no trace of upward economic mobility! Do you?
