Someone says it's time the Philippines settle the case against the Marcos clan over a type of negotiation. I believe this same guy will negotiate with other hoodlums and international terrorists, too. What a show of yellowishness. Someone invaded your home with reckless impunity and took away almost all your life savings and other treasures; now you want to sit down with this thief to give him 60% of your property so you can recover the other measly 40%. Give me a break; the Marcoses, or any government crook must be fully and duly prosecuted and punished for their mockery of all Filipinos, living or dead.

The PCGG is a 30-year old task force with a somewhat poor batting average in its history. A lot could have been accomplished in those years if they did their homework right. I think that this is the last straw for this ineffective group or just throw the towel. If they come up short again, then, it must be dissolved or disbanded & replaced by a more energetic & active agency. As the saying goes..'you can't teach old dogs new tricks'. If nothing will happen..it's about time for the these old guards to go cuz we're talking about unrecovered billions of dollars that could benefit a lot of deserving Filipinos.

The PCGG is mandated to recover the Marcoses ill gotten wealth under ART. II, Sec. 1(d) of the Provisional Constitution promulgated by the revolutionary government of former President Cory Aquino under Proclamation No. 3, dated March 25, 1986 and the recovery of these ill gotten wealth is imprescriptible under the 1987 Constitution. The responsible PCGG official who fails to act on this alleged ill gotten wealth of Imee Marcos may be charged for dereliction of duty.

Doubtful the PCGG will go after Sintra Trust. Firstly, the named beneficiaries are Imee Marcos' three sons by former husband Tommy Manotoc. Imee is only named in the private trust as adviser. That is why Imee cannot claim it in her SALN. Whoever/however the trust was formed, it has to be proven that in fact the assets came from Marcos' ill gotten wealth. Who can compel BVI to divulge such information? Not the ICIJ or PCIJ. Not PH Gov't. Not US. Not nobody. Sintra Trust is not even a drop in the bucket of the mega trillion dollars in BVI private trust accounts. Do we think for one split second that BVI will sacrifice its iron clad secretive reputation, & commit hari kiri, just to please PH?

If we lacked the political will before in prosecuting the dictatorship, How can we muster enough political will now and expect results? The Marcoses are back in power, in from all indications, they are focused to get back to their seat of power... These political circus is simply a manifestation of the Feudal Nature of Philippine politics where powerful families will not only linger on like Dynasties, but consolidate their political interest as well for generations to come. There is no real democracy in the Philippines but merely a popular adherence to the idealism. Democracy should grow but in the Philippines, it will remain stagnant for as long as powerful families in the country command the idolatry not the idealism, of the population.

Secret bank accounts are no longer a safe haven for tax evaders and "money launderers." Recently, Cyprus have slapped 60% penalty for the mostly Russian oligarchs who have stashed their hidden wealth there. We have already heard of the late Pres. Marcos ill-gotten fortune confiscated in some Swiss banks. However, they are still looking for the rest of the billions in secret accounts somewhere. This recently uncovered offshore accounts by Imee and her relatives, if true, might provide the dictator's victims the long awaited court relief for their sufferings.

When they created the PCCG during the time of the late Pres. Corazon Aquino, they wasted no time to try to recover the Marcos Funds, yet nothing has been done till now. Salonga, Abcede and the rest just failed, so time to scrap it once and for all. Too much FUNDS of the Filipinos on its taxes. And here we also have this American Lawyer who said he represents those Filipinos being abused during Martial Law. All our people got affected during that time including myself economically. Now, I am just wondering why during Marcos first term of office he ask to build a Central Bank in La Union. For what reason. I know why. Abangan na lang natin ito.

The remnants of an ugly part of Philippine history is revisiting the country headlines once again. It's the late dictator Marcos ill-gotten wealth and where it has been stashed away. Somehow, the family has came back and has regained their standing in the Philippine society. However, the family has remained steadfast in their innocence and have not shown empathy to the victims of the regime. Hopefully, there is truth to this uncovered offshore accounts and reparation can be achieved.

How much more could PCGG do? The prescription period to prosecute Marcos and cronies had lapsed. Witnesses have disappeared. Evidences collected were not enough to secure conviction. Disband PCGG and transfer the task of collecting the ill -gotten wealth of Marcos to DOJ and Dept. of Finance. Come to think of it. Much of these ill gotten wealth are still here in the Philippines. If they were as overseas accounts, money transfers could have been seen. Imelda and her children would have made a lot of foreign trips to repatriate the money and sustain the family's lifestyle.

In effect you are saying those people had already done their stealing and so let's move on and blame Aquino for everything. Did I hear you talking about the Offshore accounts of the Marcos family? Why not? Is this Aquino's fault too? Your unfair criticism of Aquino will not take anything away from him. He is trying to do an honest job in spite of harassment and criticisms of people like you. I certainly prefer him than Marcos, Estrada or Arroyo, as do the great majority of the Filipino people. Are you saying 70% of the Filipino people are wrong and you are correct?

It’s one thing to allege that Imee Marcos has ill gotten wealth stashed in an offshore trust account in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) but another thing to prove its factual basis. The PCIJ report, based on the ICIJ report, is a mere kwentong kutsero as far as the Courts are concerned. The BVI is similar to Switzerland. It is a tax haven country whose banking business is to hide ill gotten money of criminals worldwide. The PCGG will have a lot of headaches to establish the truth or falsity of the PCIJ/ICIJ ghost story. THE BVI banks will certainly refuse to cooperate. Without evidence against Imee Marcos it’s gonna be kaput. This report is good only for rumor mongers.

But see, reality will show that there is no transparency on who really benefited from PCGG! Some are using the Marcos issue again to cover up Corrupt Govt Officials after the Marcos Regime! nakakasuka na yan!" Good observation!!! No transparency! If Abnoy is serious about his 'tuwid na daan' then he has to lead by example by divulging all his assets and liabilities including interest in Luisita, bank accounts 'in-shore or off-shore'. So that Roxas, Drilon, Enrile, Chavit, Pangi-linan, Jinggoy, Belmonte, etc. will follow in divulging theirs!

Revelation in Sintra Trust named Imee's three sons the beneficiaries. Imee is not named as one of the beneficiaries. Imee is named the advisor of this private trust, not a beneficiary of it. She did not set it up. It was set up by yet to be identified some other. Imee has no financial or business ownership or interest of the trust. Hence, she can't declare it in her SALN. Nothing is further from the truth that anyone and anything can be bought in a corrupt society. It's not a far-fetched idea that PCGG will someday also face close scrutiny just like any bureaucratic agency susceptible of being bribed by anyone capable of acting above and beyond the reach of the long arm of the law. Our country and its people are still miles after miles away from their much-awaited arrival at what we really need for a change, namely, selfless trustworthiness and die-hard loyalty and patriotism wherein the nation's good comes first before self-aggrandizement. In the light of all the troubles the Marcoses have wrought upon the Philippines, their final demise will be a welcome sight for many. The administration of justice in PI is just that: a big joke wherein the poor have no part of and the rich can sidestep issues against them and practically behave as if above the law. The country may be economically sound but that doesn't mean it is also be politically stable because regional disunity (and ignorance?) remains a stumbling block in the national efforts to remove the leeches and parasites bleeding the coffers to dry. In our country, being a crook and a thief brings no more shame to the guilty. Instead that notoriety seems to be worn as a type of badge for pride and distinction.

Someone presented an almost accurate opinion on how this stolen money, if it will ever be recovered either legally or by persuasive force, will be handled by government vultures already salivating to get their lion's share of the carcass. With today's money-hungry government officials all around us, it really is not hard to guess the obvious especially when the wheels of justice are rusty, ineffective, overwhelmed, and are almost a laughing matter.

Food for thought. Although the editorial raised the issue of Pinoy penitents actually have themselves nailed on a cross, it might be of interest to you that these penitents have the luxury of being nailed to a wooden cross. JC may not have that luxury. Recent documentaries say that crucified criminals, rebels and including JC may not have been nailed on finished wooden crosses. Check this out: Wood, particularly finished product, is hard to come by in the Middle East during that time, so crucifixions, including JC's may have been done on any standing fixtures or even trees, anywhere. The movie "Nativity Story" depict crucifixion on trees. Finished wooden crosses were probably reserve for big shots (which JC was not).

Re Crucifixion and Executions. History tells us that royalties were beheaded at the London Tower, so it is obviousity to say commoners were beheaded just about anywhere, say, behind a "portolets" "E-Z Does It" or even in the old phone booths. As in my preceding entry, crucifixions during the time of JC, were not on finished wooden crosses. It would have been a waste of good building materials if wooden crosses were used considering that at the time olive are the only bigger trees in the Holy Land. They did not import that much timber and finished wood then from Canada and Pinas, you know.

It has been reported that 1 out of 11 Catholics in the Philippines is leaving the church. I don't blame these people. They have lost their faith with the church particularly the abuses of priests since 1950. The priests had become too political instead of spiritual when delivering their homilies or sermons. The church is becoming a divisive force. You are seeing these servants of Christ in this forthcoming May election endorsing candidates that are against the RH bill (buhay party). Crazy isn't it?

A statement like this is truly ignorant and misleading, it goes, "When one said that USA could be oil independent, the conclusion was based on the potential of shale oil (trillions of deposits in the Green River region of Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado) which has yet to be extracted and processed." My reply: Truly misleading. There's a new discovery now of oil beds in North Dakota. American has more oil resources than Saudi Arabia and is posed to be biggest producer of oil in the near future.. We can be independent if we want to, if we have that political will, but it seems making America dependent creates that balance that establishes the world order.

Back on the Benghazi security failure, Someone in the forum is very insistent that the very reason for the failure is lack of intelligence specifically, the inability of our forces in determining how Muslims look (All Muslims look alike according to this person) From this standpoint alone, I can easily tell this someone has limited knowledge in security intelligence. You can have the best intelligence but you can only find out you lacked more intelligence when it is already too late.. and therefore, physical security and standard operating procedures are the very measures you can rely on to minimize the damage..

He told Congress the need for action because Arroyo was trying to escape thru the courtesy of Corona, and Congress went into action. To Kali: I got your point. What I am saying is, things came down to this because of the unilateral decision that Kiram took in attacking Sabah. If Aquino sided with him there would have been a war with Malaysia. If in the end diplomatic solution would be recommended why was it not explored first before Kiram launched his attack? All of a sudden diplomatic resolution was being recommended. The point is, lives have already been taken. There had been blood. How could Aquino undo what Kiram had already done? Kiram gave Malaysia an excuse to cement its claim on Sabah. All Kiram can do now is engage in Guerilla warfare. But that's neither here nor there.

Why this rampant smuggling remains unabated is very abominable. Government inspectors monitor the inventories of these depots, They know the movements of inventories. Phreng Deo, I understand your dismay over the Supreme Court decision on the Party List System of the House of Representatives. But you must consider that the Constitution and its enacting law do not limit the party list to marginalized sectors. The Comelec rule and the SC prior decision were unauthorized legislation, hence, void. Ergo, the Supreme Court interpreted the Constitution and the law as provided in the Constitution and the law and accordingly reversed the Comelec rule and the SC prior decision. Only the Legislature can reverse this latest SC decision.

There won't be any peaceful resolution until they are completely out. That is the bottom line responsibility of a sovereign nation, such as Malaysia. So, Kiram III et al can comb the entire globe for help, but no help will come until the intruders are either gone or wiped out. However long it may take. Meanwhile, it gives Malaysia security forces the necessary training in jungle guerrilla warfare.

Someone said, " My point is that Ateneo is a reputable and recognized diploma granting university. My reaction: Ateneo is reputable in the Philippines.. but it is very laughable to compare it to Ivy league schools.. it doesn't merit the prestige and credit.. Why then do numerous Ateneans work in 7-11's, Macdonald's, Wal-Mart and so forth? Here in the United States, Ateneo Education, like most college education in the Philippines, is just another step in the ladder towards higher education.. I wont even compare Loyola with Ateneo even though they're both run by Jesuits.

Someone said this about community colleges and Ateneo University, " These schools are publicly funded and their tuition rates are much lower than privately funded colleges or universities. Remember the saying: "You get for what you paid for." My reaction: So money plays the ultimate factor now in the quality of education? State funded colleges and universities are more inferior to private institutions? How do you explain Pamantasan ng lungsod ng Maynila? University of the Philippines? So if the student pays more, they are guaranteed intellectualism with greater IQ's? The reputation of a school lies on three things, integrity, credibility, and consitency.

Someone said "These schools are publicly funded and their tuition rates are much lower than privately funded colleges or universities. Remember the saying: "You get for what you paid for." My reply: The goal of the community colleges is not to compete, but to provide a ladderized pathway for aspirants in order to obtain higher quality degrees.. It will be impossible for the U.S. to create a uniformity for collegiate admissions because this is a country of immigrants with a variety of tertiary backgrounds.. therefore, community colleges is the perfect opportunity.. Does that mean the education level is less? Not one bit, most professors in community colleges have PHD's from very well known Universities...

On this thing about Ateneo being compared to Ivy league schools, This is hilarious at best.. Even Loyola students are not familiar with Ateneo unless you explain it to them.. After witnessing for myself Ateneans working in MacDonald's, Taco Bell and even as ticket rippers in Movie Houses, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I have to say putting Ateneo with Ivy league schools is the statement of the delusional. Here in the U.S., Life meets no one, halfway.

Deo, in your message to someone here, (you know who, as usual) you said, "Attending Ateneo University vs Samson Beauty Institute, hehehe, are prapreho because nasa estudiante iyan. My reply: I have to agree with you. It's about the specialization. Now, this character keeps on telling everyone that Ateneo is comparable to an Ivy School! and not for the quality of education, but for its elitist nature! Isn't that a product of a feudal, colonial, mentality?

Deo, in your message to someone here, (you know who, as usual) you said, "Graduate ka nga ng Ateneo, hindi ka naman marunong mangulot ng buhok, hehehe, what's your diploma for? As what some of your critics says. My reply: I totally agree. What works in the Philippines doesn't always work here in the U.S., you have to earn your keep. That Atenean pedigree is a myth in the Philippines w/people subscribe to because of the feudal-colonial, elitist mentality. That will never work here in the U.S.. I have Atenean friends here who work in department stores.. fast food joints, movie houses, So how's that for Ivy leaguers?

Deo, in your message to someone, You made mention of the quality of community colleges.. You know what? I agree. I studied for about a year and a half in a community college before I studied in SDSU and I must say that I had the time of my life.. My classmates are very bright and experienced and my professors were very sharp... When I transferred to State, I had to create my own approach, the atmosphere was a bit impersonal. I found it a bit weird because you have to study in a hall with 300 students! So I actually missed my community college days, it was fun, very accessible and the quality was just the same.

Deo, in your message to someone (you know who, as usual), You made mention of the quality of community colleges.. If I may add, the purpose of Community Colleges is to create a pathway for students who obtained their tertiary levels elsewhere.. The U.S. is a country of immigrants as they say... so there's really no competition but the quality of education is great because it is very relevant, very practical and the professors encouraged critical thinking and analysis.

[Someone] is very unhappy to learn that Phil Researcher has an education masters degree in the US. The bird could only get his from PNC in Taft Avenue. The bird will argue that it is the man and not the school that matters. The form, the logic and the substance of one's blog will tell who the better teacher is. You be the judge.

My story, early years re circumcision: All boys sch., 6 pupils decided on a peeing contest. The longest pee will be the winner & losers have to share/give free recess lunch. So we were all lined up, when we started & have to look at each other to avoid cheating. The leader went ballistics when he saw mine & laughed coz it was different fr the rest. I was so ashamed & they started bullying me. The ff. day, they all gave me their lunch moolah & requested me to keep quiet. I was really confused at that time. Maybe their parents were not in favor & punished them for the humiliation they did to me, I got no idea. I found out later the reason why. I was the only one circumcised. Who got the last laugh, ha!

DRONES. Are we looking at a new type of battle field in the skies in the making? WAR OF THE DRONES? China, in its attempt to thwart US sea and air power in the pacific, is looking to mass produce UAVs, unmanned aerial vehicles, to spy on the US navy in the Pacific. Certainly, on its neighbors as well.., like the Philippines. US military has close to 700 UAVs. China has approximately 300 now.

Re: A critique on bloggers who write in Tagalog..If you want to exclude some people to understand your blog by writing in Pilipino language, please make sure that your Pilipino is correct.. there is no word "maga" I believe the writer..must mean "mga".. if one cannot spell Pilipino words correctly it lessens the impact of what you are writing. Please write the correct spelling of the Pilipino word. I'm sure there must be on the internet a spell check for Tagalog or Pilipino words.

I do believe that Prime Minister Abe sincere statement of "deep remorse & heartfelt apology" for Japan's history of colonial rule & aggression is a mark of a great leader: adaptability---not tied to Japan's past or history, success, or defeat in war. Remember that "the greatest danger occurs at the moment of victory."

Political Dynasties Are Destroying the Philippines

With midterm elections just days away, it bears repeating that from our perspective, Philippine elected officials leave so much to be desired. And one reason why we seem to have such a dearth of top-rate individuals is because political dynasties are pervasive throughout the archipelago. Political dynasties from a Philippine context are in some ways akin to the fiefdoms that existed in Europe during the middle ages. Published 05/12/2013

Voting Wisely Is So Important for the Philippines

With elections a little over a week away, Filipinos need to take a long and hard look at who they are choosing to lead them for the next three to six years—for the Philippines is a country sorely lacking in leadership. For decades we have been electing celebrities, entertainers, and relatives of past and present politicians who are totally unfit for public service. They have neither the training, the experience, nor the intellect needed to properly do the job voters elected them to do. Published 05/03/2013
Swift Justice in Boston, Something You Hardly Ever See in the Philippines

You have to give it to American law enforcement; they really seem to have their act together. When the horrific explosions occurred during the Boston Marathon it appeared almost impossible that whoever did it would be apprehended. But just a few days after that bombing incident, authorities seem to have cracked the case. One suspect is dead and another is now apprehended. Large swaths of the greater Boston area were on lockdown and door-to-door searches were conducted in the suburb of Watertown. Published 04/20/2013
Will the PCGG go after Imee Marcos’s Offshore Trust Account?

The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), cooperating with Washington DC-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) recently published a two-part report that revealed that Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos Manotoc, eldest daughter of the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos is the beneficiary of a secret trust account held in the British Virgin Islands. Published 03/25/2013
Crucifixions, They’re More Fun in the Philippines

During this Holy Week like others in the past, for as long as this author can remember, a small minority of Filipinos have been whipping themselves raw or nailing themselves to crosses in a supposed show of atonement and piety. This odd spectacle now draws worldwide interest with curious tourists flying in from all over to witness firsthand flagellants who whip themselves to down to raw flesh or penitents who are nailed to wooden crosses on Good Friday. With a Simple and Humble New Pope, What Should Happen to the Philippine Catholic Hierarchy?

Celebrating his first mass as Pontiff a day after being elected, 76-year-old Pope Francis told the assembled cardinals to guard against “the worldliness of the Devil.” Here was a man who made it an annual practice to celebrate Holy Thursday by washing the feet of the poor, and the downtrodden of his native Argentina. Here too was a man who took the bus to and from his work despite having chauffeured vehicles available to him. He preferred living in a modest apartment, cooking his own meals despite access to the well staffed bishop’s mansion in the ritzy the suburb of Olivos where no less than the Argentine president has his summer residence. Will We Ever See a Filipino Pope? Not with the Way the Philippine Catholic Church is Run Today

Reeling from the resounding victory of the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill, the Philippine Catholic Church has decidedly jumped in the electoral fray (despite the constitutional separation of church and state) to influence the outcome of the country's 2013 elections. The church recently launched a “Team Buhay/Team Patay” (Team Life/Team Death) campaign that identifies legislators running for re-election who voted against or for the RH Bill. Those who voted against the bill are part of Team Life, while those who voted for the bill are part of Team Death—at least as far as the Church is concerned. Published 03/13/2013
