DFA must create a legal task force with our best & brightest lawyers to represent our OFWs in court anywhere in the world. To defend on the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) is not good enough. These hardworking OFWs send ever-increasing amounts of billion of dollars back to the Philippines & it greatly benefits Filipino families countryside & other cities outside MM. They contribute 13.5% of our GDP which greatly help our economy. To neglect these global workers is the biggest mistake our govt do. Incompetence or apathy? No, it's plain stupidity & lack of foresight on the part of our govt.

The article just described the unfortunate fate of PH, (quite different from it's Asian neighbors ), whose people cannot be totally blamed for their current problems. Firstly, after landing in Guam in 3/6/1521, upon hearing of PH's gold and resources, Spain's Magellan and succeeding conquistadors fought to overrun a divided archipelago, run by small divided kingdoms. The Spanish 3 1/2 centuries rule by sword and religon, resulted in a strict PH Catholic church that, from the 1970's, opposed modern family planning, tripling PH population today, and limiting Filipinos prospects for a better way of life. Mary Jane and the Filipinos today are the victims of this fate, and that PH leaders and the world should help ameliorate PH's current problems.

The Editor of this article is 100% right. Indonesia should be expelled as a UN member. MJ Veloso is the sacrificial lamb. The recruiter is the wolf. MJ is gone and the wolf still around. It doesn't make sense. It makes me sick. Where is the logic.

Shame to those Pilipino politicians who enriched themselves through all means of corruption; totally ignoring and neglecting the poor masses of their own countrymen, enjoy themselves & bluffing with their ill-gotten money; and put the fellow Pilipino in danger, risk and hardship! They are the one supposed to be executed by firing squad, instead, they are enjoying VIP treatment in hospital suite or special detention centers. Time for Pilipino people to wake up and overhaul the whole system.

Not to be insensitive, but how many times have incidents like this happened to Filipinos? It's like a tired commercial on TV complete with the "efforts" of Binay the anay to show off his self promoting attempts at rescue. For as long as there are Filipinos who could not make both ends meet there will be a repetition of this incident. The Tagalog expression "Kapit sa Patalim" precisely describes the mindset of Filipinos taking chances to smuggle drugs anywhere. Their country cannot provide for them despite the fact that they have all the qualifications to be productive workers. So what choice do they have?

The greed and corruption institutionalized by Marcos on our society continues today. I am astounded how one man can totally debased and destroy a country. Hitler destroyed Germany but not the German character. Marcos is the worst evil since he destroyed both. May all those who follow in Marcos' footsteps be damned in hell with him.

"We'll most likely all end up in Hell", the editorial stated. My comment: Don't you think a great majority of Filipinos are already there? This terrible fate that befell this woman did not have to happen if the govt. is seriously enforcing its laws on illegal recruiters, if the govt. is truly overseeing the condition of OFWs, if the govt. has the wherewithal to assist & help its citizens who may have legal problems abroad. Pakitang Tao is what the Filipinos are good at. Think Hypocrisy. To little too late is the best description you can give their efforts. Think nonchalance caused by laziness. And do you think Filipinos really are concerned with the fate of this woman? Or do they have so many problems themselves to be concerned?

The heroic OFWs can do something more heroic if they would just bond together and overthrow a corrupt govt. They could use their economic muscle to assure the punishment of guilty Thieves & Plunderers. But that is easier said than done. Usually they are consumed with the problems of their families in the PHL to be interested in WHO is Stealing WHAT. And look at the flip side of the coin. What does the PHL govt. do with DRUG lords/dealers/runners? The PHL house them in their private resorts in Muntinlupa complete with the amenities of extravagant living.

In the news: "Mary Jane Veloso To Be Executed On April 28". That's 3 days from now. What's ominous about it is, 2 Indonesian OFWs were executed by the Saudi Arabia with in a week even with the effort of the Indonesian government to save their lives. "A law, is a law" so the Indons may say. Because the 2 Indon OFWs broke the law of Saudi Arabia, then in the same breath, Mary Jane Veloso should also be executed because she broke the Indonesian law. But I hope the Indonesian will understand that there is no death penalty in Pinas. If ever there were Indonesians that committed capital crimes in the Philippines and they were spared the Philippine expect the Indonesians to reciprocate likewise and spare Veloso's life.

"An eye for an eye". If foreign govts. can execute Filipinos caught smuggling drugs the PHL should also execute Drug Lords & drug dealers. But WAIT. There is a Problem. The Bishops will not approve of that. And the politicians are afraid of the Bishops. And so the PHL is perhaps the only country with a Death Penalty THAT IS JUST SITTING THERE & never enforced! At the same time it sees its citizens being executed elsewhere for the same crime. The resources in the PHL are being monopolized & exploited by the very few well placed, well connected people. Executions of PHL citizens in other countries would not even cause those people to bat an eyelash. Those privileged few are the ones who should be executed.

Re: Mary Jane Veloso.. I take it that you blame her naiveté for her situation. True she was naive..but surely she must have heard of the other Filipinos who were already executed in China for exactly the same thing. When one asks you to carry something surely you have to ask what are you carrying. The laws of other countries are implemented it their books. China, Indonesia to mention 22 countries..With all the publicity around prominent Filipinos one a Congressman whose dad was a Governor of their province, that Congressman had to serve his term of three years in a Hong Kong prison, surely Mary Jane Veloso must have known about it. In this particular case of Ms Veloso, the principle of a person most of the time is the author of his or her own difficulties also applies.

At best Filipinos will look at the pictures of this woman and mutter, "Kawawa naman". Then they will move on and brace themselves for the forthcoming Pacquiao fight. A.D.D.? Kanya Kanya? Call it what you will but it's not in the nature of Filipinos to spend much time in matters like this execution. Collective compassion is a passing thing as far as Filipinos go. If you are poor in the PHL you are doomed. That's all there is to it.

I tried to draw conclusion giving Mary Jane Veloso the benefit of the doubt her story from her own words, but were so many holes. I mean that she is completely "unaware" about the narcs in the suitcase. I can give her only credits that it was her "first attempt". Here are the "holes":1) She may be a 6th grade grad but the attempted "mule" was in 2009, too current that she as an OFW haven't gotten advisories from PH govt. about drug smuggling vs laws of other countries; 2) she was aware that the suitcase or bag was unusually heavy empty but do not know of something sinister);3) The "help" from "Christine" from getting her a job; the money, plane ticket and hotel and complete stranger(s) to meet her at the airport, given to an OFW were too convenient to be believed.

I do not mean that she should be executed, but as the axiom says, "the law is may be harsh, but it is the law". Further, I do not mean that Indonesia is only getting even considering that (in my previous posting) two of its citizens was executed by the Saudis within a weeks time in spite of its (Indonesia) pleading. Although humanitarian gesture by sparing or even freeing Veloso would not hurt Indonesia's standing in the world.

No one can hate a Filipino more than another Filipino. You're a rude, disrespectful people who get pleasure out of watching others suffer.

Hopefully this negotiated legislation will finally bring peace, political & economic development to Mindanao. The greatest of efforts were made of both sides & we were almost there. It could have replaced the current framework on the Autonomous Region for the entire Islamic population of Mindanao. Before, most Filipinos ( here & abroad) were not aware of the proposed BBL until new challenges (Mamapasano massacre) emerged. Today it has become a new constitutional challenge for our govt who must renegotiate this deal. Right or wrong, those who violated the law must be brought to justice. Surrender the identified 90 assassins of our valiant & heroic SAF Troopers or no deal.

In my POV to sum it up, there will be no peace even with BBL because: 1) There will be "war" between Philippine Shiite and Sunni (they considered each other unbeliever just like Muslims any where in the World when it comes to who should be Caliph or something like that), 2) Christians (Filipinos) as "occupier" of their ancestral homeland , that's why the "liberation front" and "freedom fighter" in their organization's names 3) if they apply "Sharia Laws", Philippine government, just like any Western government, will always oppose it because they will consider it oppressive especially to women.

The Muslims were never discriminated by the government at least with regards to government allocation of funds. If Muslim territories appear so poor is because their Muslim leaders have pocketed most of these funding for their own families throughout these years. Do you think Moro Islamic Liberation Front leaders are different? Give them some measure of autonomy but to give them billions of pesos is complete insanity. We have yet to see an honest Muslim leader in Mindanao. Reject BBL.

There is no peace in Mindanao as long as there exists a separatist group among Muslims. Moro Islamic Liberation Front members are non-separatist group willing to co-exist with the central government. To have peace in Mindanao, would only one contracting party must exists. Moro Islamic Liberation Front must clean itself of BIFF sympathizers within its own ranks.

You are wrong again [someone]. Muslims in Mindanao have no way of admitting if they are Sunnis (like Saddam Hussein) or Shiites in Iran. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front and BIFF have political differences than religious. Lets us call a spade a spade! Let us not insult the intelligence of Christians neither the Muslims.

As I said, I can not emphasized more the fact that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and BIFF aim is to "liberate" Mindanao from the occupier. Their organization's names says so. There's no other "occupier" they want to "free" and "liberate" Mindanao but the Christian Filipinos and the Philippine government.

[Someone] : On the matter of auditing of public funds entrusted to the Bangsamoro, it is subject to supervision of the central government's COA. Artcle XII, Section 2 defines the limits of authority in the Bangsamoro organic law. It is well defined if you had bothered to read. It too naive to believe that central government will give up or abdicate that auditing responsibility to the Muslim autonomous region.

Why are we making a big fuzz about Igbal's use of an alias, nom de plum, or nom de guerre? What is he violation of? Aliases violate the law when there is money laundering, concealing a crime, evading execution of judgment, taxes, immigration law, defrauding others, etc. The matter of multiple use of aliases are common Chinese in the field of trade. People in the literary field, tv, radio and entertainment use pseudonames.

News: DingDong Dantes, Isko Moreno on LP list of possible Senatorial bets. So nothing has changed, the Plunder charges against 2 prominent artistas notwithstanding. The filipinos are still opting for name recognition instead of qualifications. Or more precisely opting for the appeal of Artistas than anything else. Why not just make the PHL a movie production company. But the problem there would be the lack of "BIDAS" because the country has nothing but "BANDIDOS".

In the news: "Philippines Asked ASEAN To Stop China's Reclamation In West Philippine Sea". The Philippine should just let the insect finish the project. If the Philippine wins, the worst that the insect will do is probably destroy the reclamation. China will not go to war just for that as any kano would say "piece of shit". Or better for PH if the insect will just abandoned it. Or if the insect will ask for compensation, the Philippines can always "baratin" them. You see, there is no stopping China now "harangan man ng sibat". Just pursue the issue to the U.N.

Here is my take on letting the American military back into your country. At first everything will go smooth but after just a short while American Commanders will tired of your lazy, dishonest ways and no longer cooperate with the Filipino military or even your government. You say what. An example. None of your leaders had more power than Marcos and he was refused American military help twice.

It is not true that the earlier settlers in the USA who took the voyage thru the ship MAYFLOWER and settled in Massachusetts were prosecuted. They were all Protestant members of the Church of England opposing the rule / influence of government on people's faith. It was not the Roman Catholic Church vs. The Church of England. Rather they were the separatist group of the same religious denomination within the Anglican Church. Someone is rewriting history.
