199 families evacuated in Pangasinan, 233 in Dagupan due to Typhoon 'Lando'

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Oct. 19 (PNA) -- A total of 199 families were evacuated in Pangasinan since early Sunday morning following strong winds unleashed by Tropical Storm Lando across the province.

As of 11:00 a.m, Pangasinan was placed under Public Warning Signal No 3.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said that based on the track of the typhoon, it will exit through the province of Pangasinan. At the same time, OCD is appealing for preemptive evacuation.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said those evacuated came from the towns of Lingayen, Anda, San Fabian, Sual, Bolinao and Binmaley, all coastal areas in Pangasinan

Separate 233 families composed of 936 persons were evacuated premptively in Dagupan City.

PDRRMC Spokesperson Avenix Arenas said all the 48 towns and cities of Pangasinan were affected but the most affected cannot yet be determined as the typhoon is still raging.

She said the initial evacuees were brought to evacuation centers earlier designated by various Local Government Units (LGUs) and are now under the care of the Municipal Social Welfare and Decevdlopment Offices (MSWDOs).

PDRRMC said all highways in Pangasinan are still passable but clearing operations on some of them had to be made after trees were toppled down by strong winds unleashed by "Lando." (PNA)
