Mega rehab center in Nueva
Ecija admits 20 more drug users
MANILA, May 13 -- The Mega Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation
Center (DATRC) in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija has admitted another 20 drug
addicts since April 30, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Saturday.
“As of today (May 13), the DOH Mega DARTC in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija
attends to 247 drug dependents,” said Dr. Jasmin Peralta, program manager of
the DOH’s Dangerous Drug Abuse Prevention Program (DDAPP).
The Mega DATRC, built on a 10-hectare land in Fort Magsaysay, has a 500-bed
capacity that is expandable to 10,000 beds. It offers free rehab for
indigent drug addicts.
Some 22 patients are expected to graduate from the Mega DARTC by the end of
the month or early next month.
The DOH aims to have at least one rehab center in every region to give drug
users across the country access to treatment. The Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police have estimated that
the country has 4 million drug users as of last April 20.
Meanwhile, the DDAPP’s partial records show that the DARTC in Camarines Sur
has 97 inpatients and 16 outpatients; the DARTC in Bataan, 119; the DARTC in
Cagayan de Oro, 117; and the DARTC Cebu in Eversley, Mandaue, 20 inpatients.
