Jessica Sanchez, Yes! We’re Behind You All the Way!

e’re taking a break from being the curmudgeons we are, to highlight a sixteen-year-oldJessica Sanchez listens to American Idol Judges after her rendition of Witney's "I will Always Love You" Filipina-American from San Diego who just captured the hearts of American Idol viewers with her absolutely angelic voice. While we’re not letting up on our ongoing quest to draw attention to what’s wrong with the Philippines and the people who we believe are to blame for its being that way. Consider this as a “timeout” by us from harping about what’s wrong with us, to crowing about what’s great about us.

One of the 13 finalists in this season’s American Idol , Jessica is proving herself to be one of the gutsiest in the group, confident not just in her flawless singing voice but in her ability to take it to the heights of musical perfection. As Randy Jackson, one of the three judges, pointed out “this is one of the hardest songs in the world to sing…I think you’re one of the best singers in this whole competition, oh my God!”

The other two judges, and were just as profuse in their praise for the Filipina-AmericanJessica Sanchez laughs as she listens to american Idol judge Jennifer Lopez's comments about her perfornance in her mid teens. “Just, just amazing! I don’t even know what to say…I’m speechless” said Jennifer Lopez, while Stephen Tyler pointed out to Jessica that “you just made 40 million people cry.”

While the completion is still far from over, like most Filipinos, we are filled with joy when one of our own shines in the world. To the Jessica Sanchezes, the Manny Pacquiaos, the Charices, the Lea Salongas and all who strive to be the best at what they do, we love you. And we’re behind you all the way! Published 3/9/2012

Last night me and my family (just like any other Pinoy families) have our noses glued to TV just to watch our very own talent Jessica Sanchez; not only that she comes from San Diego, CA but from our beloved Pinas! Wow, she got a standing ovation from the 3 judges & the audience. She got our votes and at this early many people have their eyes on her as top favorite to win the competition based on her last two performances.

RE: American Idol...The highest place a Fil Am has reached in this contest I believe is top 5. Jessica has to reach the top 10..as this group is further hired for a summer tour. I heard they make at least $300,000 if one is included in that summer tour. Jessica has to be really exceptional in her weekly performance to win the to ultimate prize of American Idol. Her chance is slim but she has the voice, if it is written then she would be the first Kayumanggi to win.

I don't watch Fox 11 because I worked there for 5 years and the saying that goes, "familiarity breeds contempt" applies to me. So I went to you tube to view Jessica Sanchez' video clip in the American Idol and boy, she can siiiinnnng! There is so much promise in this girl and I can only hope that in the end Fox would see that too and propel her to stardom. Good luck and count me in to add to the Nielsen rating and the votes. This is a welcome break indeed! Thanks Philnews!

I've seen the other contestants on American Idol; Jeremy Rosado, Philip Philips, Jennifer Hirsh, etc. The best description of what Jessica sang is simply..'bigay na bigay' o 'patok na patok.' She's been singing since age 5 & started participating on singing contest at age 16 most ot them she won. Now, at age 16 she's a class by herself. Shades of Charisse. A very bright future in the entertainment industry indeed. Filipinos world-wide are very proud of this little girl with a big heart & powerful voice. I watch the other songs on Youtube & she could hit those notes on different octaves. Good luck Jessica. You're an inspiration to young Filipinos to be the best in the world.

About this Jessica Sanchez of American Idol. Remember the "preliminary" judges are the audience. Pinoys are not that rationalistic as the RP counterparts where they voted corrupt politicians as long as they are a bisaya, ilocano, capangpangan, hilonggo etc. or any kawatan for that matter as long as it is kababayan (ka-probinsiya). So good luck for her.

When Jessica was the next to sing on American Idol, my sister who likes to watch American Idol gave me a ring & of course I switched to watched the show. Wow, Jessica was still singing when I switched & she gave me hope that she'll be one of the top 10 like Thia Megia. I think Thia placed 3rd & this time Filipinos will have a good chance of seeing a Filipino Mexican American who'll be the next American Idol. I watched & listened to Jessica sing her latest song & I think that she had just propelled herself to the top. Her voice was like the voice of singing star Whitney Houston. 'Glad to be one of the 40 million touched by Jessica's performance.

My sister, a filam from Baltimore, several years ago told me that her group of filams went to Washington DC to see the show featuring American Idols with Pinoy cast, Jasmin Trias and Camille Velasco. She was emotional with pride and happiness. She told me “I was so very proud” as a Pinoy. Now we have a Jessica Sanchez who sings like the late Whitney Houston. Thanks a lot GOD for giving Filams in the USA reason to be proud about. Thanks Philnews for featuring Jessica Sanchez in your editorial. Watching her sing Whitney Houston’s "I will always love You" reminded me of Charice Pempengco as a contestant in “Little Big Star” who rendered this song exactly like Whitney Houston.

I don't mind to be one of the curmudgeons in this forum because every critic has its own identity. We have different ways of responding to different issues, or to the world itself, if you will. We have philosophical & linguistic differences. Even Jessica Sanchez has a different way of finding her own song in the American Idol. The fact remains: systemic corruption in the Philippines will produce more global maids & local tsimays or tsimoys for Filipino-Chinese, not modern intellectuals & well-informed Filipinos who can unlock the information to liberate themselves from fanaticism.

If Jessica Sanchez happened to compete in the Philippines, there is no way that she is on the top spot right now. We have many I mean many talented singers in the Philippines like Jessica, but because of the widespread corruptions in the Philippines, they will never be discovered. Watch the Philippine TV shows, most of those singers can't even sing, they sing like those crocks when they looking for mates.

7gtng: You don't understand the attitude of Pinoys in the U.S. especially those U.S. born. As I said before you have to be their kababayan; meaning since this Sanchez is from Bataan, she is nothing but sh...t to bisaya, ilokano, hilonggo etc. Even tagawog (tagawog part of Bataan) Check this out: There are as many Pinoy associations as their are provinces in Pinas. And even if, say, you are a bisaya if you don't know any body from a bisaya association you are nothing but a sh...t. even though you are a bisaya. I should know, it happened to me in a Davao Association. So the only voters from Pinas for Sanchez are from Bataan, Tagalog part only. BTW, I know only one U.S.-born who was excited about Sanchez; my younger son. But even my older son, forget about him. hehehehe. No kidding.

What happened? Unfortunate. On rehearsal of "Turn the beat around," Will I. Am wowed her, even calling her a way-up there swagger-naut. I was ecstatic. I think that's what triggered her to be careless, & flare out of her comfort zone, reaching out beyond her range. Result was shrieky, flat, & screechy just in those grey areas of the song. The rest of the song she performed fine. Hopefully she will vindicate herself the rest of the Idol season. You need to be almost 100% every time to win in Idol. Keep voting anyway. I vote repeatedly.., maybe 20+ times last night.

Jessica Sanchez took on the wrong song tonight. Even though she was game, energetic, fresh and vibrant, and the performance was excellent to the end, she was late, shrieky, wide and flat when the song called for a commanding wholesome bombastic delivery. The song didn't fit her. She was trying to fit the song. All in all, it wasn't bad try. The song just not her cup of tea. > LINK Now watch how Gloria Stefan did it. > LINK

In the urging of my wife who watch the Idol, when Sanchez sang I was "forced" to watch her. I said it before, I'll say it again (to all Fil-Am contestants so far in Idol); "only in the beginning". Last night, 3-14-12 was no different. The judges was unanimous in their unfavorable comments. Also, when Pinoys feel the sting of $.99 a pop, it would be "goodbye" Sanchez. Don't forget, there are many factors against pretenders to the throne who are not Black or Caucasian. If you know what I mean. hehehe.

Jessica is just as talented as anyone among all the contestants, bur there is POLITICS no matter how you put it. Unless you are extremely better than the rest then you can draw the line. Take for instance, Charisse did not win the grand prize, but why is she now an international phenomena? Take Pacman for one, do you think he could have a seat in the congress had he not become a boxing champion? POLITICS is influenced by money and who ever has it has the power! Tsk tsk tsk...

She did last Thursday one was eliminated and Jessica would be able to do the summer tour as I stated earlier , her income for the summer tour would be handsome amount but each week you have to be competitive otherwise she would be a candidate for elimination ..Her choice of songs will also be a factor if she becomes the next Idol.
