A number of readers who describe themselves as Christians have posted comments asking us to forgive Marcos for his sins and for us to move on. But, last I checked, biblical forgiveness is conditional, its release dependent on true repentance (Luke 17:3-4). "Christians are called to forgive others as God has forgiven us (Matt 6:12; Eph. 4:32). By example, God forgives those who confess their sins and repent of their actions (1 John 1:9). The forgiveness of God is not unconditional: God requires faith and repentance. Like God, we should be ready to offer forgiveness to all, yet also require genuine remorse and a change in behavior. Therefore, we should only forgive those who truly repent and look to the Cross for grace and help in their time of moral failure (cf. Psalm 51:4)." None of the Marcoses have confessed their sins nor have they shown any repentance or expressed remorse of any kind. Show pity and compassion towards the tens of thousands of Filipinos whose loved ones were killed by Marcos and his cohorts. Pity the millions of Filipinos living in poverty because of the atrocious plunder committed by the Marcoses. Forgive?

Re: Burial at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani--As dictator responsible for 3,257 killed 35,000 tortured and 70,000 incarcerated..Because Martial law was declared to extend himself in power.. in short...for greed. Imee Manotoc was adjudicated as responsible for the torture and death of Mr Trajano whose only crime was asking Imee a question during a rally..They should not have been elected anymore thus Filipinos have short memories. Fake medals and this current President would allow FM to be buries at the Libingan ng Maga Bayani. I'm glad I'm now a U.S. citizen.

So far martial law is our most valuable lesson in our history. To the ordinary Filipino, who is the most vulnerable to injustice, the true and ugly pictures of a government by decree are just starting to unfold. We must not let this dark period of our country be repeated by anyone man. We must not shed blood in silence; spill it by fighting against injustice.

Why Filipinos are so much of hatred, having a hard time to move on for goodness or righteousness, so pessimistic, why are we having a hard time to forgive and forget when we ourselves are not perfect at all? Why full of drama in our lives? Why make it so complicated? please life is too short ,please we have the 10 commandments to follow to make our lives unmiserable! Stop all the negative propagandas! Stop the lies! Thank you

The spirit of the truly heroic and deserving deceased people interred in LMB will be violated if this man's body be buried in that sacred place. Let's not desecrate that hallowed ground by allowing his remains to muddy a rather decent place for the true martyrs of our land.

Marcoses already have valid contract about Ferdie's burial and they want it twisted to disturb those real heroes in LIbingan ng mga Bayani. Wow, what a family of worms are they? This is a sign that P.I. would not be able to move forward if the present administration allow it, what a super joke.

Let the president decide on this, trivial, if not laughable matter. One thing I can say with conviction is Marcos doesn't deserved to be interned there. The inexcusable crime and excesses done by him and his wife during their term of office overshadowed and voided their claim for his supposed heroic service to the nation even if that was true.

Re: Ex Pres. Ramos Agreement with the Marcos Family. I believe the recollection of EX Pres Ramos is corroborated by some memos that are still in Malacañang. When he extended himself in power in violation of the Constitution, I believe he lost any claim to be buried at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani. I can't believe that the FM excesses when he was a dictator are not in our history books to be taught to school children. He extended himself in power because he was greedy..thus the final punishment for him being literally kicked out of the islands by the Filipino people. Now we honor him with a burial in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. There are still many unsolved disapperances..what happened to Tivo Mijares is still a mystery. It is a good example of FM's abuse of power.

Re: Sol Gen. Jose Calida..His Argument is that by burying FM in the Libingan ng Mga Bayani(LNMB) it doesn't make him a hero.. True but why do you have to bury him there when it has been proven that he declared Martial Law to extend himself in the Presidency and he caused the disappearance and death of so many innocent Filipinos because of his greed. In the first place the family agreed with the condition of Ex-Pres. Ramos that he can be admitted back to the P.I. but that he has to be be buried ib Ilocos Norte.

Marcos blind Loyalist would always say that the media is bias against the Marcoses. What most media outlet are doing are showing documentary evidence that solidly attacks the credibility of Marcos' fake heroism. Philstar for one has shown through the "Vera files" that Marcos has placed the name of Fidel Ramos (FVR) as one of his commanders in his so-called "Maharlika Guerrilla" when in fact Fidel (yes, the former president) was only 15 years old at the time of the war. Media should ask FVR why he allowed his name to be used for Marcos money-making tale that was rejected by the US Army.

Re: Burial of FM in the Libingan ng mga Bayani.. There was an agreement that he should be buried in Ilocos Norte then FM's remains should be buried there. Ex President Ramos reason was the abuses committed during Martial law..There was no reason for Martial Law other than to illegally extend FM's term and continue their Plunder of Government funds and confiscating profitable Companies. e.g. Meralco. Martial Law would not happen again because the Filipinos have learned their lesson they will die for their rights. If Duterte declares Martial Law he will be history in less than a year.

Re: Speaking of abuses during Martial Law, here is one which I recall I read from the Los Angeles times sometime in 1989. A movie actor named George Hamilton (he appeared in a commercial for Kentucky Fired Chicken). When FM and Imelda Marcos were exiled in Hawaii in 1989, The office of PCGG (Phil Commission on Good Government) then headed by former Sen. the late Jovito Salonga was about to sue the Actor because there was a residential property worth $5 million in Beverly Hills Ca. in Hamilton's name but the money used to buy said Residence was Imelda's money.. Guess what George Hamilton did? He executed a Quitclaim deed in favor of the PCGG to avoid a law suit. He returned the ownership to the PCGG.

Re: Abuses during Martial Law- I believe it was about less than a year after Martial Law declaration, there was a headline in one of the Ph. Dailies. The Wall Street Journal of Hong Kong was sued by JPE (Juan Ponce Enrile) for an Article in the WSJ which stated that JPE is a Partner in the Angara, Abello, Regala, Cruz & Conception or ACCRA Law as it was well known then. Of course the headline remained a headline. I don't recall what happened to that case. But I heard it from one of the named partners that indeed JPE was a Partner in that Law Firm. Yes JPE was the Sec of National defense at that time.. This was the law firm in South East Asia which charged their clients "New York" rates.

Re: Ferdinand Marcos. Does he deserve to be buried at the Libingan ngMga Bayani? Absolutely not.. After World War II he filed an application with the U.S. Army to recognize his guerilla group "Maharlika" for their supposed guerilla exploits during the war. The American Officials investigated his claim and it was denied. Their conclusion was that his supposed guerilla activities was a fraud. A fraudulent claim. Thus FM lost credibility with the Americans. I seriously doubt that he was a guerilla. His father Mariano Marcos was I believe a collaborator as he was a compadre of President Jose Laurel the President during the Japanese Occupation. If people who were alive during that could write the exploits of FM, I seriously doubt he was in the death march.

In the heroes cemetery , at its entrance, you find this inscription: " I don't know the dignity of his birth but I do know the glory of his death." Literally one could interpret it to mean that you don't care less what the man did while living. In the case of Marcos he was a soldier and a president. He may not be a good soldier or a good president either But he was both. Not all past presidents were buried in the heroes cemetery neither were past US presidents were buried in Arlington Cemetery. They have different burial sites. Reagan had his Reagan presidential library, Washington in Mt Vernon, Lincoln in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Only JFK was buried in Arlington. People argue that Libingan was a hollowed ground. How come Angelo Reyes got there? What is the big fuss? To make all happy let Digong build a Ferdinand Marcos Presidential Library in Batac.

I fought the Marcos regime. There is no need to convince me he is a dictator. He abused the power that was entrusted to him by the Filipino people. HOWEVER, it will be ridiculous to say he has not done good things as well. To say he has no positive contributions at all is very much like the left saying the United States is totally evil and devoid of goodness and positive contributions. But that is always the left....It was hard for me to accept that Marcos has done a few remarkable things as well... it still is but the truth of the matter is, He really has done remarkable contributions... I realize that now looking back. For example, He introduced the 13th month pay which to this day is still a wonderful help. He eliminated Lim Seng, which is one example Duterte should learn from and Yes, He saved the nation from a snowballing leftist takeover spawned from the domino principle in southeast Asia. I am not defending Marcos. But No one can judge him without him defending himself in public court... Do we pick on the dead now in our democracy? If we have all kinds of gripes against Marcos, let us all remember the undeniable contributions he gave as well.. After all, it was still the Filipino people who voted him into power. So my point is this, since the Man can no longer defend himself, Can we at least reflect in our lives if he was that terrible a figure in our lives as a people? and then, can we reflect just the same at the blessings we have now from his leadership. Is that hard to accept because he was evil or because of our ego? I say let him be buried in the Libingan ng Bayani for the things he did as a soldier who fought the Japanese... and for that alone!!!! Now, for the bad things he supposedly did, Should we judge him without him being able to defend himself? Should we decide this way, then we are submitting to a judgment by publicity and public opinion. If he was really a terrible person in our history, let the historians debate on that.. I say bury him and let's move on.

There are various ways we can tackle headlong our drug-infested society. Application of the law and humaneness are only two of them. Drug lords and their agents who are already well-known must be tried in every court of the land; addicts must be taken care of by the government. The killing must end and the sick cared for. If the whole population must be rehabilitated and every drug cartels be abolished at government expense so be it. It's a high price to pay but it is a price tag of being a "Filipino". If the Philippines were able to pay for the Marcos profligacy, why can't we also do this.

I still consider Philippines to be a civilized country that adheres to the rule of law and justice. Justice extends to those poor and troubled people. I am in favor of stopping the proliferation of drugs BUT NOT by Extra-Judicial Killings like what is going on right now. This is a reflection of a weak / failure system in dealing with drug problems and chooses the most unpopular way in dealing with it by killing people. We are solving a problem by creating more problems. There has to be a more civilized way in dealing with these problems and killing is not the answer. There is life when our political career ends. We are sending a wrong message to our officers about their immunity from law suit when they violate rules and policies or fail to perform their jobs with utmost respect to the rights of others. Philippine cops REALLY have to be trained the different stages where Deadly Force can be used. They have to understand what constitutes an "Imminent Threat" before Deadly Force can be used. They have to articulate extensively why the used a deadly force. These killing should be investigated by an outside agency and NOT within the department to eliminate doubts and prejudices.

Re: Campaign "Ceo" Stephen Bannon. He was the head of Breitbart group. He is supposed the help Trump in the campaign.. The problem with Bannon is that if Trump is a racist Bannon is a White supremacist. One of his emails was shown in a popular Cable network. Trump has right now about 1% of the black vote. How can Trump get black votes when his campaign Ceo calls blacks " mongoloids". he is losing in all the big must win states e.g. Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio & Florida. As late as last week Stephen Bannon supported the opponent of Speaker Paul Ryan who got a landslide vote in his Congressional district in Wi.

Re: Thaksin of Thailand. Based on the comments of Ben Maliksi, from Maragondon Cavite, I did a little reading about the Former Prime Minster of Thailand Thaksin.. Very similar in operation to what Duterte is doing thru Bato Del Rosario.. There is already a lot of abuses. A father and son arrest resulted in their being beaten to death by the policemen. Pres. Duterte even suggested that he may withdraw the Philippine membership in the UN.. Pres. Duterte you are not a dictator you have many powers as president but it does not include the power to withdraw membership of the Philippines in the U.N. Even before the Ph was officially declared an independent country in July 4, 1946, the Philippines became a member of the U.N. in 1945. Please note that Thaksin was removed by a military Coup.. If things continue as they are happening now I seriously doubt that Duterte will last up to the end of 2016.

Re: Pres. Duterte..July 1, 2016 was his first day in office.. He has been President for less than 2 months and this is now happening.. 564 have been killed, that number was about a week ago from the Los Angeles Times. There was no breakdown how many were killed by civilians and how many were killed by Uniformed policemen.. Duterte is overwhelmed by his new job as President at this rate of killings and with the U.N. already about to send representatives..there is an appearance that Duterte is not doing his job well.. He made another pronouncement that all appointees of the previous President are required to vacate their office. That is limited to the executive branch other branches like the judiciary and legislative are not affected. The former Mayor appears to be overwhelmed by his duties and responsibilities. If this continues I seriously doubt he is going to last for 6 months..

I am very disturbed by Duterte's recent statements and actions... If he keeps on doing this, he is inviting his own downfall... He threatened to breakaway from the UN after the latter expressed its concern about Duterte's wanton disregard and bypass of the accused individual's presumption of innocence and thereby, violating human rights... Thus, a suspect remains innocent until proven guilty.. The UN is right by being concerned. Should we expect a UN that should just keep quiet about this matter? That will dumb. Duterte should have just defended its position without resorting to insults and threats.. but he did it anyways like a freaking street bully... Now, The UN is a big common denominator when it comes international rights as well as peace and order, regardless of their series of failures.. Yet Duterte without any qualm did his thing.... I just have to wonder, Why is Duterte more critical of the UN (who actually helped us against China) than China who have no qualms in bullying and invading Philippine territories? With China Duterte even said, War is not an option. But with the UN and the US, He calls them with names and insults..

At Present, We all know that China is bullying the Philippines.. While the UN and the US helps us deal against this bully, Duterte insults the UN and the US rather than China and throws the idea of creating another Association of Nations that will be led by China (surprisingly), and joined by other African nations... What does this tell us about Duterte? Now its all coming out.... For you guys who oppose him like me, They call us elitista......So all you guys who voted for this character, behold your soft tyrant who is fast becoming into a full blown one. Is he helping the Philippines at all? Marcos dealt with the drug problem with just one measure and it was effective... The Live Firing squad of Lim Seng... Just one "live event" on TV... and it was very effective... As of the present, Duterte's "scores" have now amounted 1400 deaths... and the big names or the Drug Lords are still alive aided by their lawyers... A firm and fair administration? Not one single warrant of arrest... Has the drug problem been solved?

The problem with Duterte is that he is neither governing or leading... He is trying to create by force, a Philippines that is according to his vision... It's also baffling and disturbingly puzzling that his tolerance and overall restraint to China's adventurism is high while he couldn't take a heat from the UN or the US over the issue of human rights. The UN and the US are decisive big cards in our hopes for controlling an aggressive China... If not for these two, South Korea wouldn't be South Korea... sure the UN has its failures... but the Philippines as a country is not a success either.. It is a big failure as a country and I have no qualms saying that... Look at the number of Filipinos migrating somewhere else... college grads willing to work as domestic helpers... We are not a success at all when it comes to the basics of life. I think Duterte is very Pro-China and i won't be surprised if sells out to this bully regardless how one sided the deal is... Whatever happened to his pledge to jet-ski to the Spratleys and plant the Flag there? Another dog and phony show.. I don't think this guy is a braveheart at all... I don't think he can fight without a gun. I also believe that Duterte is very conceited and self-centered... and that's how tyrants are born... Actually to say he is self-centered is an understatement. In just about two and half months, He has lost sight of himself as a servant at the expense of 1800 deaths as he now acts as a closet tyrant. The Filipino people clearly made a big mistake in this page of history. This is what happens when we as a people subscribe to popularity of celebrities and supposedly strong political figures with social and "political romance." It will get worse before it gets better, before we finally learn our lesson... We have a leader who sees nothing wrong with killing 1800 people for merely being tagged as drug users or pushers... no warrants of arrests, no investigations, no objectivity, no compassion. For all you liberals and big government fanatics, these actions speaks big shades of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao Tse Tung... This is Political lynching. By the way, Has he caught a Big Time Drug Lord yet? Pathetic...

Is that a successful start? Is the Philippines finally controlling its population growth by killing its citizens? Now some Filipino balikbayans are having 2nd thoughts about going back home , will they be unduly endangering their lives if they go on vacation to the P.I. Attention Department of Tourism you have to give some directives right now and give some kind of directives to prospective balikbayans and also first time visitors to the P.I.

"It remains a puzzle to me why we should choose a strongman to solve our problem at this time rather than...to create stronger & functional institutions." [see Inquirer: Thinking about democracy in Mongolia by Randy David]. I think it is common knowledge that democratic election can produce a tyrant, a despot, a totalitarian, a dictator, a strong legitimate democratic leader, and so on. Democratically elected strong leader like president Duterte, is aware that he is accountable for his behavior & leadership. Mr. Randy David must realize that the "essence of democracy is not elections but an informed consent of the governed." And a nation will only grow [or emerge] into a democracy if the flow of information will be decentralized: Every democratic society must have "a system for providing people with a voice in the making of decisions that affect them & a mechanism for holding representatives accountable to those whom they represent." Mr. David should remember that the power & legitimacy of a leader can't be attributed to a one-time election, compact, referendum & so forth. Why? Scholars pointed out that in order for democracy to survive or persist, it must rely on the people's continuing support. It must rely on leaders legitimacy. Moreover, the relevance & irrelevance of revolutions [i.e., EDSA 1986] need to be scrutinized. No one can argue that revolutions are implausible in democratic societies & liberal democracy is irreversible. Again, one of the enemies of democracy is "elective despotism." Why do you think that the spread of democracy is misleading in a modern world?

" due process is not mentioned in my order. I would like to quote here the oath he took as President of the Philippines the day before he started serving as President of the Philippines.. "I Rodrigo Roa Duterte do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and conscientiously fulfill my duties as President of the Philippines preserve and defend its constitution, execute its laws do justice to everyman and consecrate myself to the service of the nation. Part of his oath as stated above says defend its constitution execute its laws do justice to everyman.. that includes the drug dealers and/or drug addicts. Please stop saying that you don't care about human rights .. read your oath of office again Please.

I think president Duterte is a great leader who has the intellectual & moral courage to defend the Republic of the Philippines against war on drugs, terrorism, political corruption, Abu Sayyaf bandits, etc. This evil is a massive threat in the national security of the Philippine Republic. I think nothing would be worse than condoning the existence of enormous evils: the corruption of the young Filipino children, the corrupting influence of drug trades & politics [i.e., Senator De Lima's alleged association with drug lords], the long & dishonorable history of treason [i.e., for president Aquino's & former president Arroyo's failure to defend the Philippines against Communist China's threat]. I think the Filipino people have a duty to support president Duterte's "good war" [see Jojo Robles, Manila Standard: A good War]. There must no let up in president Duterte's war on drug & war on terrorism. This evil must be fought in any mountains, along the coasts, in any streets, in the air, in the halls of Congress, in PNP, etc. May God Bless President Duterte!

Re: The Trump campaign-- A lot of Republican Filipinos are ignoring Trump denigration of nonwhite including Filipinos.. The Campaign "CEO" who was recently hired by Donald Trump is a racist who didn't want his children to be enrolled in a Jewish school because he didn't like Jews. Stephen Bannon in his recent email called blacks who were shot by police as: "Mongoloids" and they purport to be Nationalists when they are actually proponents of the superiority of the white race over all other races. Trump himself included the Philippines as among the countries who could be exporting Islamic Jihadist because we have a Muslim population.. Are you still voting for Trump who considers Filipinos as an interior race that's you GOP candidate.
