The Philippines definitely needs political reforms mainly the presidential system replaced by a parliamentarian federal one, corruption to be harshly punished, an anti-monopoly law to prohibit single family groups from controlling the whole country, a national defence program with an army being the school of the nation making everyone being trained for 1-2 years once the citizen becomes 18 years old to learn discipline, obeying orders and work for the nation not for yourself only, respect law and order mainly first ask for your duties for the country and than for your rights and become a anti corruption and anti crime fighter. For this type of changes you need a at least strong autocratic leader with high motivation and integrity. Will we ever find one? I do not know if Duterte has this qualification.

1 of 2. Excerpt “Davao Mayor, Rodrigo Duterte, has been heavily criticised by numerous organizations for condoning and even inciting murders to take place during his leadership. In the April 2009 UN General Assembly of the Human Rights Council, the UN report (Eleventh Session Agenda item 3, par 21) said, "The Mayor of Davao City has done nothing to prevent these killings, and his public comments suggest that he is, in fact, supportive."[13] Human Rights Watch reported that in 2001-2002, Duterte appeared on local television and radio and announced the names of “criminals”, some of whom were later executed."

Digong Duterte as he is fondly called by his constituents in Davao does not have the qualities of a leader who will represent the country to the world. He will be a hooligan and never a diplomat in the world stage. He has a potty mouth. He will embarrass this country if you make him president.

In Tagalog, Digong Duterte is KSP (kulang sa pansin)., He wants to show everyone that the prnciple: "the end justifies the end" is valid. The death squad in Davao is Digong's private army. Rumor has it that many members of this group are Quiboloy's followers. Quiloboy is a self proclaimed/anointed son of God. SANNAMAGAN! When you get out of Davao airport you see his imposing house of worship / residence. He surrounds himself with beautiful women when he delivers his sermons. Like INK, his "church" is not religion but more of a cult.

Cont. 2 of 2. “In July 2005 at a crime summit in the Manila Hotel the politician said, "Summary execution of criminals remains the most effective way to crush kidnapping and illegal drugs".[14] In 2009 Duterte said: “If you are doing an illegal activity in my city, if you are a criminal or part of a syndicate that preys on the innocent people of the city, for as long as I am the mayor, you are a legitimate target of assassination.”]

The Chinese businessmen will support Duterte in Davao but not when he runs for national office. Chinese are smart gamblers and they do understand the odds that Duterte has a very low probability of winning the presidency. Duterte does not have a senatorial line-up to begin with, and he could not campaign in Luzon and attract a crowd without being booed. Rodrigo Duterte is a GANGSTA, a BULLY, and a BUGOY. He is seeking the presidency for the wrong reason. HATRED against de Lima and Rosales does not suggest a sound political agenda. Duterte is being childish and foolish. I GIVE TO HIM A MIDDLE FINGER SALUTE!

Duterte is a novelty. And in a country as undisciplined & ungovernable as the PHL, Duterte & his kind could be expected (think Ping Lacson). The more attention media lavish on him the more he will be performing his antics. It just so happens that in this day and age "Dirty Harrys" like him is a welcome change, which is why there is a certain segment in PHL society that believe in him. And who knows? Maybe he is the answer to a hopelessly corrupt govt. like the PHL.

Arguably people like Duterte has no place in a Democracy. But that is presupposing that Democracy is good for the PHL. Is it? Look at the crime statistics. The drugs, the hitmen, the criminal families like the Ampatuans, the sickening impunity of the well connected & on & on & on. This is Democracy? Why, Duterte would seem heaven sent in a setting such as this.

In the late 40s and early 50s politicians move around the City (Davao) with no fear of being assassinated. For example, ex-governor Miranda (Ricardo) used to tinker with his plants (roses and other bushes) in front of his house fenced only with picket fence, while we tendered with our veggie garden plots across the street. You see, his house was across our school. Or Mayor Carmelo Porras in the 50s. He would take his morning walk with no bodyguards. I have seen the father of Mayor Duterte (Vicente Duterte, the governor when Davao was one province) only once when he attend the wake of sons (who died in car accident) ex Governor Rodolfo Sarenas and Mayor Porras). There was no bodyguard either. That's how safe Davao City was then.

It does look vulgar & unbecoming for Duterte to give his critics the finger. However, knowing who these noisy critics are the middle finger seems to be the appropriate reply to their criticisms. De Lima, for example, has something to say about everything. But when you get down to it what has she done really? The laughable Human Rights advocates whose existence provide criminals & lawbreakers a way out. Aren't they nothing but Bullshi**ers? And how would you reply to such people? The bottom-line is that "Critics" like them BREED people like Duterte. They deserve each other.

I think it is wiser to take a chance on Duterte than Binay. In a country like the PHL people do not have much to choose from. Sure there is Roxas, but is he even electable? Grace Poe? She is like a brilliant college student who may turn out to be another flash in the pan like Aquino in the real world. At least Duterte is a known factor. Look how peaceful Davao is. And more important he does not have a history of stealing. That alone should give him a big advantage over the others.

Instead of Hitler, Marcos & the Ampatuans, Duterte rather reminds me of fighters like Arsenio H. Lacson. Lacson was as outspoken, irreverent & blunt as Duterte & yet we all know that the golden years of Manila was during Lacson's time. Filipinos, especial the so-called civil society are so preoccupied with appearances. Which is why Thieves like Binay & Enrile were able to rob the nation blind. What the PHL needs is a brawler like Duterte. If he really is the man he projects himself to be, what we call "Patay kung patay", then he may be the President the PHL should have. And if he straightens the country out what difference does it make if he becomes a lifetime dictator. Remember Lee Kuan Yew?

Duterte has a peaceful, safe Davao to show for all the big controversies surrounding him. What does DeLima, Rosales and other human rights babblers like Saguisag have to show for their services? In the PHL human rights are so being observed that Plunderers like the Binays, Enrile, et.al were able to denude the country of its financial resources without any trouble at all. We have been talking of Change. Well, here's Duterte. What has the PHL got to lose if Filipinos take a chance on him, considering.

Since our nation's independence we are not able to progress due to lack of unity. We are a nation of intellectual people who make things more complicated. If we want to leapfrog years of negative growth and progress. Our leaders and government have failed us and will continue to fail us. Let us pity the next generation. Just an opinion maybe we can follow what the Puerto Ricans did. They vote in favor of US statehood. They still have their own flag culture and government. And most of all Puerto Ricans are still free people with lots of opportunity.

I still have some messages about the present topic & the candidacy of Binay that had not yet been posted. I was just thinking that if they are posted maybe some bloggers would find them interesting. I personally prefer the old style, just for the record.

To PNL: You made the right decision by keeping the Old style of posting. You have to understand that old men like me are wary of starting all over again in another website. In the first place remembering passwords is not an easy thing to do. Secondly, I am personally aware of identity theft in the internet so much so that I avoid giving my email address to new websites. Let's just continue the discussions the old fashioned way.

I have noticed that The Inquirer, Philstar, M. Bulletin , TV5 Interaksyon and Malaya are not a part of Philnews anymore. Those remaining newspaper or media outlets are bonafide propaganda machines of the anti-Aquino groups except CNN Philippines which almost neutral. These remaining media outlets are almost always spreading misinformation to favor the anti-Aquino camps. They can not stand the truth and fairplay. This communism's way. Those who decided these changes has no element of shame in their body. This is a very desperate move.

They are all still there. You can find most of them on the upper left corner of our homepage.

I might as well say it. Of late there is a surge of Roxas press releases proclaiming him to be the official candidate for the LP. The press releases may be calculated to increase people's awareness about him & to show his wares, so to speak. Even Aquino in his familiar willy-nilly style says Roxas was it. My 2 cents: Roxas has no iota of a chance to be elected President. He just does not have voter appeal. If Aquino is boring Roxas will put people right to sleep. The danger here is not the LP's fantasy that Roxas may win. No. The danger is that Binay might be elected despite his crimes! Even Lito Lapid would beat Roxas. Si Binay pa?!

[Someone]: It is easier said than done to jail corrupt officials without due process. That in not in consonant with a democratic form of government and in violation of the constitution. When judges could no longer be trusted because they are political appointees, jurors are more acceptable for their common sense and because they are not part of the justice system. Judges think they are living in a different world and not in the communities where they belong. One could buy a judge for his decision but not all the majority of the jurors for their verdict.
