(Topic: Filipinos Need to Stand Tall In the Face of Chinese Aggression)

The U.S. formally announced its involvement by its warning to China and its intention to continue their actions on the free air and seas of this particular part of the world. For us Filipinos, It would be the ultimate act of cowardice to simply step aside and let the US and China become the main protagonists of this issue. The main protagonists of this global matter is our Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, etc. etc... So what do we do for the meantime? Do what is constructive for the projected scenario of war... "The best guarantee of peace is our willingness to prepare for War." Japan and Vietnam are preparing for it, Yet the Philippines is still acting like it wants to be spoon fed when it comes to arms acquisition... I am so ashamed to be called a Filipino when it comes to this matter.... We are clearly waiting for the Americans to give us our materials for free..... Very embarrassing. Who do we really want to save us? Is it the Americans or Manny Pacquiao? For once, lets learn to express our dignity as a people. The time to fight back has come.

The US government is helping us in our fight against China. Now our country's expert will say that we should get out of the way between China and the US or we might get trampled? If our attitude is like this then no country will ever help us in our fight to defend our rights. In the first place it is our problem against China and the US only takes our side, is this the right attitude that we should take?

"The only God the Chinese have is money," says the Editorial. And these Chinese have worshipped money so much that these days they seem to have more money than God. They are making hay while the sun shines. While the world makes ineffective noises objecting to their actions their constructions continue. Complaints will not stop these people. Only force, or threat of a financial meltdown would make them stop. And that would take more than The USA to bring about. And this is all Filipinos can hope for, really.

President must visit not only Japan and the US but also Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore to enlighten and get the sympathy of its neighbors and the great powers as well. China had reclaimed some 800 hectares, installed military assets on these contested islands in South China Sea much to the surprise of the world. China is changing the balance of power and security of the region and "throwing her elbows."

The Philippines should adapt China's strategy of strengthening its claims in the South China Sea by reclaiming islands to serve as "unsinkable aircraft carriers". We should build our own islands too. Instead of the corrupt Aquino government bribing members of Congress hundreds of millions of pesos to pass the stupid BBL, why not put this money in island-building in the South China Sea? Malaysia is doing that now; it is reclaiming its own island quietly to bolster its claim in in oil and gas-rich South China Sea.

I agree that the UP Professor sounded defeatist & dependent by issuing such statements. She could have issued a call for Filipinos to unite solidly behind the USA. Somebody should call her asinine to her face. Her statement just shows the cynicism that has engulfed the country. I wonder what the USA thought of her statement.

I do not subscribe to the theory that we have no capability to defend ourselves because we are militarily weak and corrupt. We could be corrupt yet patriotic. China and Russia are both corrupt nations but they are patriotic. It is true that we are spending the least militarily compared to our southeast neighbors (except Myammar) . We spend something like $3.292 billion militarily compared to Indonesia of $7.0 billion and Malysia of $ 4.9 billion. These two countries have claims over those disputed islands in South China Sea. North Vietnam was weak militarily when it drove the Americans out of Vietnam. There was the will to fight and die. Do Filipinos have that?

ASEAN nation must be united and vigilant against China. If they will not do that the freedom of navigation will be a nightmare for the international community. What I said is to fight the claim for the economic zone and the ASEAN itself. Give the China unforgettable lesson that never forget. Like not to buy China's product and get help from other countries like US, Japan, Australia and South Korea by stopping the reclamation areas.

I bet Crooks like Binay & the Pork Barrel Plunderers are hoping for a war to break out between US & China. That would surely sink the people's interest in the prosecution of their cases. That would be the "Blow over" event that they are praying for. In no time at all their crimes will be forgotten as the people's attention will be consumed by the US - China conflict. So even when the US takes action against China the PHL still stands to lose. This time against enemies from within. Perhaps more dangerous than China.

Ed sez- "Make no mistake, China's ultimate intention is hegemony over all of Southeast Asia in the short term, and Asia and the rest of the world in the long term." Some seventy years ago-- the same could be said about Japan. Now fast forward and we are heralding the cooperation between our once foe Japan as an ally in the west Philippine sea! Someday--it may also be true with China.

You know the answer huwag na tayong magpakatanga, any delay makes china even stronger. those senators and activists cheered when they kicked out the American bases, does it benefit the Philippines as a whole or just their pride and their quest for history-making stupidity

Did you notice that since the USA started flexing its muscles to call China's attention about the construction of the bases the world media had OMITTED the mention of the PHL in their reports? Every time I come across a news report about this matter the only thing mentioned was a simmering conflict between the US & China. No mention that the Land belongs or is being claimed by the PHL. Why is that? Well, all I can say is draw your own conclusions.

RP will be the battleground- while mainland USA and Australia will be protected by the expanse of the Pacific and those USA controlled islands!

Digong Duterte is delusional. He thinks that his style of leadership in Davao could be replicated nationwide. People in Davao do not talked openly against him for fear of being targeted as an enemy of the city and of the mayor. It is true that the Chinese business community supports Duterte in Davao. Going against him is bad for business and everybody knows that. Duterte's son Pulong monopolizes the waste disposal system in Davao. That is corruption when a single person controls the business. His threat of running for presidency should be dismissed as pure bravado and a joke. He has no political platform and organization. If you are a Davaoeño, don't waste your vote!

For the sake of the Philippine future. Duterte is good for dirty society but not for president, He maybe as for vice president and put him in a DILG cabinet. To eliminate corrupt official like Custom official, Casino official, Purisima, Vitangcol, Abad, Drilon and even Penoy (Aquino) himself and other cabinet officials. Penoy (Aquino) is a stubborn govt. official never listens to his BOSS. Court says PDAF is unconstitutional but when you check the budget (2015). PDAF are still there..

Re: Duterte, Mayor of Davao City.. Anybody can run for President as the qualifications are not stringent but winning the Presidency is another matter..He won't be elected because he has a reputation of a goon, a bully who shoots first and asks questions later. The person who can be elected is a decent person who does not wallow in pork barrel nor overprice government projects. The Filipinos need to elect a statesman not a wannabe multi millionaire who buys an Hacienda and allegedly transfers it to some businessman who has no track record of owning vast tracks of land.

If you've been following the exploit of the Duterte's, the daughter, Inday, (term of endearment) as Mayor (elected by the people of Davao) was not for creating a "dynasty" but for the father (Rodrigo) to continue his "work" for his beloved City. He was actually running the City as Vice-Mayor. I will bet my aluminum centavo he never enriched himself in office. He is a simple man, so his needs are simple. He doesn't need all that money the position "offered". When he said, he will have his pension, and that's enough for me to hear from him. I believe him. He's been reluctant to run for National office because he will surely be "run over" by many people in public and private sectors.

What [someone] is saying about Davao in the 50's is but a piece of history. There were no lawless elements then. These were no NPA's, drug addicts, private armies, nor crime syndicates. Life was good. Crime rate was down. Population growth rate was under 2%. Unemployment rate was almost non-existent. Urbanization was just starting. People in Davao city were bullied by Digong since he assumed political power. He created a political dynasty in Davao with daughter Sarah and son Pulong. Come on down from upstate NY and vote for him in May 2016 if you love him.

The country needs leader with iron fist who can make our country a total turn around. I believe Mr. Duterte is the right person to be the next president, let alone corruption and crime. Too many cases are still unsolved till date like, abduction of civilians like Jonas Burgos, the frequent involvement to crime of our men in uniform, our bigwigs politicians who continuously drain our country's treasury to enrich themselves thus leaving aside the dying poor people, infrastructures, etc. The other person whom I favored to be Pinoy's successor is Senator Ping Lacson. I am certain our cancer type of sickness government system will be completely changed. What is the benefit of a highly educated president if he can't bring down the rotten system our country's having since inception. WE NEED CHANGE.

What is the purpose of putting the photo of Mr. Duterte with a middle finger protruding from the rest his fingers. Wahhh ..very bad intention as all media does if they don't like a person. This guy has guts to discipline the stupid people including media reporters who reports distorted facts. We need a President who can instill discipline in our society. Filipinos attitudes needs an iron hand.

Tv ads are being shown in Manila about Duterte. Binay ads focus on his role as the savior of hopeless OFWs (like St Jude). Ping Lacson ads are aired in Davao city. Cayetano ads are shown in both Manila and Davao. The $64 question: is Cayetano running for president? Isko Moreno ads are being aired in both Manila and Davao this early. He is applying for the job of a senator. BTW: 11 senators have signed the Blue Ribbon Committee report. If Ombudsman gets the report, indictment for both father and son for plunder is imminent. Now the Binays could air their side in court. Why wait this long? Jojo's campaign will be derailed. He loses valuable time and voters' support! DUMB AND DUMBER!

I've always held the belief that an editorial must be neutral, not siding any person or party over an issue at hand. That its purpose must be only to reveal all known pertinent facts and information then leave it to its readers to either form their own opinion or arrive at some conclusion based on such revelations. It sounds so unfair to attempt to lead or sway the reading public toward the editor's opinion. This editorial must be re-written and and re-titled "Should Duterte Become The Next President?" Thank you

[Someone]: Except if you ask citizens of Makati, not too many will vote for Binay. He is too toxic. If Erap runs as a paid candidate of the LPs , Binay loses the D&E voters. Erap will enter into an agreement to forgive his son Jinggoy with the ruling party. Both Jojo and Jun Jun will be indicted before the year ends. That would be the last nail in his coffin.

The K-12 program was implemented in a rush. It takes two school year to prepare teachers, provide the necessary teaching materials, prepare parents for the added cost and construct more school buildings to house students. It is a misconception to infer that extend school stay prepares students for the job market. It prepares them for college life. Technical school training is the gateway to better paying jobs overseas. We have seen college graduates unemployed and taking jobs below their academic training. NURSES as masahistas! BS Ed graduates as yayas in HK.

[Someone]: These are the "reform" or structural changes that I would suggest : (1) adopt a recall system where voters could remove any erring members of Congress and judges even before his/ her term expires or retirement age is reached respectively (2) limited members of family to 2 in each province (1 each for national and local elective positions (3) no elective official could seek another elective position lower than his / her previous position . (4) term limits of 2 ( 12 years cumulative) for senators and 3 for congressional representatives, mayors and governors. Full retirement benefits after their term expires. (5) revisit life tenure for judges and justices.

[Someone]: I disagree that our country did not progress after getting our independence. Our chosen leaders regressed morally. They have lost their moral compasses. We see abuses by those who walk on the corridors of power. We have seen the waste of hard earned taxpayers' money. We denied to many people ladders of opportunity. Our leaders became beholden to INK, Quiboloy and all those false prophets for their financial contributions and member's votes. We allowed the CBCP to have the last word on reigning in population growth.
