The Philippines President is totally out of line. The killings, ordered by Duterte is out of control. Innocent civilian are systematically slaughtered throughout the country. He has committed multiple civil rights violations and committed crimes against humanity. He is terrorizing the people with his bragging of his committed murders in the past and present. He must brought to justice. lengthening him in power will only escalate the death toll of innocent civilians by pre judicial executions.

Really? With the way he's talking, who can be so sure that he will honor that proposition? Not one, until he resigns voluntarily or he's voted out of office. But lots of luck to all who believe on this premature conclusion.

Why we must protest by John Nery [see Inquirer: Opinion]. I think there's a great danger that's lurking in the recent Supreme Court's ruling that gave the green signal for the Marcoses to bury the late dictator's [Ferdinand Marcos] remains in the national heroes cemetery. What would the Filipino parents, leaders, intellectuals & Supreme Court justices tell their children about the Marcos regime? I think the SC Justices decision to bury the remains of the dictator [Marcos] in the shrine for heroes will not further honesty, transparency, accountability, justice, integrity, & life.

This Rodel Rodis don't know or understand the Constitution and the laws protecting the "freedom to a peaceful assembly, etc., etc., etc." Mr. Rodis put this in your kokote that this Lewis is an american and she should not meddle in the affair of the Philippine government. She's got the guts because she can't be reach by the law? Dual citizen? the more she should not wash the "dirty laundry" (if any and she can prove it) of the Philippine government led by President Duterte. So Mr. Rodis there are more to see what the Constitution says than just "black and white".

I read the following statement and I can't help but raise my reflections.... The statement goes this way, "I think the Philippine Supreme Court is not interested whether the late dictator, Ferdinand Marcos, was a hero, or a villain. My reaction: Hey, it is not for the Supreme Court to provide title and judge anyone like a reality show... It is their duty to study and provide merit due to facts and not opinionated statements.... Now, I personally do not believe Marcos is a hero.. I actually don't like him as a political figure being a dictator... but I do know he served in the military and fought against the Japanese.. .. We are not talking about his performance as a President but his devotion as a soldier who risked his life for his country..... For this alone, he is entitled to be buried in the Libingan ng Bayani...Not because he is a hero but because such is a benefit for all who fought against the enemies of the nation...... Now i know there are talks about him maliciously forging his military achievements.... Well, its been more than three decades since he was ousted and we all have this time to research and campaign this allegation. but nothing transpired. Nothing. So this is the fault of the Filipino intellectuals who have created all kinds of noise but without substance... We are one people who never learn from history simply because we don't value its benefits... The EDSA Revolution is a prime example of a very strong Filipino trait Theodoro Agoncillo identifies us with... Ningas Cogon. We lost on this because of our negligence. Plain and simple.

I think President Duterte is always aware that he was once a university student. It is common knowledge that universities will remain "cradles of protest for gentler planets." The young Filipino students might not be able to discern the wisdom of their elected leaders & the path of right action to challenge the legitimacy of their authority, but they have the right not to accept at face value the decision of the Supreme Court Justices to allow a dictators remains to be buried in the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani. We've learned from our parents & teachers to obey the law & not to question the orders of our leaders when we're children: discipline. What is the most important duty [or moral duty] of a citizen of democracy? How can you challenge an irresponsible & corrupt Filipino public servant if the spirit of every Filipino democratic citizen has been crushed by a despot or a dictator like the late president Ferdinand Marcos? I think when injustice manifests itself [i.e., Filipino intellectuals, [or history itself] will honor Marcos as a hero & savior of the Filipino people], the Filipino people have a right to oppose it. Again, I think President Duterte is a passionate & honest public servant; he is a man of action in history, but President Duterte must understand the lesson of history: "He that goes once through a tyrant's door becomes a slave, however free before." One of my favorite great thinkers once said that "no one could be happy with his share of public happiness, that no one could be called free without his experience of public freedom, & no one could be called either happy or free without participating, & having a share, in public power."

The author of this article, Atty. Rodis, must understand that you don't need to be an intellectual to comprehend the nature of 'protest rally' even though the affairs of the world are not always governed by the forces of sanity. Legal category is not only the basis of political legitimacy, for instance, there is an independent, traditional & exclusive form of governance, which is affiliated with legal authority. And you don't need to be a lawyer & a product of elitist school to discern the fundamental types of legitimacy. All you have to do is to read books & revisit your nearest library in order to understand the bloody historical records of dictator, despot, authoritarian & totalitarian leaders.

The Philippine Supreme Court Justices who gave the green light to bury the remains of the dictator, Ferdinand Marcos of Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, must be the mentors of the oppressed Filipino people about ethics [education about ethics]. The Supreme Court justices must also determine themselves whom they hold up to as true heroes in Philippine society. I think the young generation of Filipinos will emulate the former dictator [Marcos] as their hero. I think the late dictator [Marcos] represented the value system of their society: the extravagant way of living for a moment of Marcos' family, Aquino's family & corrupt practices of Filipino public servants. I think the burial of the dictator's remains [Marcos] in the national heroes cemetery will represent the materially but corrupt wealthy Filipino politicians & celebrities. It seems that these are the kind of people the Supreme Court Justices want the young generation of students aspire to become when they handed down their decision to consider the Marcos regime as the golden age of heroism. Moreover, I think the Supreme Court Justices decision to allow the burial of the dictators [Marcos] in LNMB is akin to building a prison for themselves---the Filipino people as a whole. This modern prison that the Filipino just built for themselves, according to a scholar, "doesn't have to consists of cement & iron bars; it need only be an attitude [or Supreme Court Jurists views, if you will], a fixed way of life, an imaginative mode of problem solving." What makes a Filipino habit bad or evil? "It is a habit of enslavement into old ruts." Plain & simple.

My Canadian family moved to Manila in June of 1968. In my late teens at the time, I was horrified by the poverty and corruption I observed under the Marcos regime. He and Imelda pocketed multi-millions in US aid which never reached the hands of rural Filipinos. After we returned to Canada (1970) I remained informed about the atrocities of Martial Law. I have not forgotten. Filipinos must NEVER forget. Marcos should be buried in a garbage dump.

This surprise quickie funeral is the ultimate insult to the Filipino people. If he was such a great guy why hide behind a secret burial? He's an exceptional crook world renown. His mummified remain must be turning in his grave. What a farce.

President Pres. Duterte's another un-Filipino move: allowing the "carcass" of Ferdinand Marcos be buried in the "Libingan ng mga Bayani" to satisfy the whims and arrogance of the Marcos Family. Wake-up Filipino people, no more Marcoses or Dutertes !!! Trust them not to run our government again.

How would the Marcos family feel if they were victims of a martial law? Will they consider the person implementing martial law a hero? Probably yes.

I'm not going to lambast the SC and the Pres on their decision to bury Marco's remains at LNMB. Instead, I want to bring up the sensitive issue of protecting our countrymen working (or slaving) abroad from the abuses and hardships they bear in order to make life better for the families they leave behind. In spite of the outward appearance these modern-day heroes show when they take leave and visit the country from their excruciating situation, let us remember that all is not well with most of them. If the Philippines is proud and benefiting from the remittances coming from them, it is only fair to pursue higher standards of protection against their employers. And if it's not too much for the asking, let's train our young men and women to be better educated as nannies and caretakers before sending them abroad for so they can get some semblance of respect from their employers just like the British do.

RE: The final rites for Marcos & the system [see MB: Opinion posted 11/18/16]. I think the maxim "every man a hero" is not applicable to the late dictator, Ferdinand Marcos, even though he was once a soldier. Most heroes from the past were not soldiers, but men & women of vision, arts, & science, or the intellectuals who refused to pay homage to dictators, despots, & totalitarian leaders. The late dictator [Marcos] was not motivated by honor & duty as a soldier & president of the Republic of the Philippines, but greed & lust for power.

Many are angrily yelling that FM is not a hero, yet, not one is presenting evidence to support that claim. Either tell us why he is or he's not with supporting material evidence or historical records. Then the public will react accordingly with a halt or proceed with the internment at LMB. Thank you.

I'm watching the live hearing my the government involving de Lima, Espinosa and Dayan. Interesting as can be. However what make me sick is seeing all the politicians eating breakfast during the hearing. Food being shoved into faces. Food falling out of those mouths. People picking their teeth. Wiping noses. Was this about the truth and justice or a meal. What a joke. Nothing but a dog and pony show. With one exception people are being murdered and these politicians think its a big joke.

To mockingmaya I completely agree with you. The only way we can help our people is for all of us to work together once and for all. As long as we do not have hidden agendas it will work. That is a given as we see a lot of Filipinos who forms associations but once they are elected they do not give others to take their place. so in the end others starts to create other groups like here in Canada. But it is not the end of this problem we all face. We will have a much better future for our younger generation in the years ahead. You will know it as it will come anytime now.

Re: "Trump presidency impact on PH "cause for Concern" that is the headline of Philippine News a grocery paper (meaning free) Published in San Francisco Ca. Well many Filipinos voted for Trump. Now if you have relatives who are TNT the cause of concern is that many of them will be deported in 2017.President Trump takes his oath as POTUS in the 3rd week of January 2017. Believe me, I heard Congressman Kevin McCarthy of (R) California that on the day Trump takes his oath he will sign legislation on illegal immigrants. They would immediately start rounding up illegals. Those with criminal records are the ones who will go first but the TNT would be next.

I have read a very negative comment from someone who said that can not run for president of the Philippines as i no longer a residence of the Philippines. That is what you all think. Why did Andres Bautista disqualified me at the very last day of filling. Its because on the document signed by the Hon. Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr. that they all got scared. It they think that because I was disqualified they can stop me, then they are all wrong as I will prove it otherwise. Now that I have supported Pres. Duterte when I was disqualified I have no problem to deliver the needs of our people. Its not USA who will play a major role . Its CANADA as this country that I called my second home is a country that does not get involved on any internal problem of another country. You will know more as it will be all over the news soon.Filipino American Loida Nicolas -Lewis can not provide secured jobs for all Filipinos including OFW's.

I am glad that Mockingmaya brought out to build libraries for future generation for our people in the Philippines. 10 years ago though on a very limitted funds I send used hardbook cover with lesson plans that i was able to use from the school of my two daughters and they gave it to me rather than be recycled. At least I was able to send 5 big door to door to my sister-in-law who is a public school teacher in Negros Oriental. Its now being used as references in their library. We are all very aware that up to this time very limited books and most are very old books specially on the remote rural areas. Now is the time for my group to upgrade all public libraries including computers with access on internet on both children and adult. Adult education can be done in all public schools after 5 PM.

With the way congress conducted the Dayan hearing with more emphasis on the personal relationship of Dayan and de Lima, it was so distressing for viewers especially women. No male government officials accused of lawful actions ever experienced the same ridicule. How many of those congressmen can swear on the bible never have mistresses, affairs, etc. And this disbarment case against her, half of the lawyers in the Phil will have to suffer the same fate. As the saying goes let's call a spade and spade.

Negativing academic freedom by Fr. R. Aquino [see MS: Opinion 11/25/16]. "Educators must love their students or scholars better than the corporation, the government or their Church; otherwise they are not ideal teachers." Who are the custodians of scarce national resources [i.e., high quality education as an investment]? Modern Filipino politicians today can raise millions or billions of pesos to run for public office---most of it from corporations that pollute the environment or ecosystem. This is akin to the death of Philippine democracy: unchecked corporate power. What is the highest priority of government? Of course, economic growth is essential if a country is to support the schools. The author of The Death Of Common Sense has pointed out that "modern law has not protected us from stupidity & caprice, but made stupidity & caprice dominant features of society."

Palace: Fidel Castro's feats become models for developing nations by Nestor Corrales [see Inquirer: Opinion 11/26/16]. I think there many Filipino Marxist intellectuals who believe that "Communism will remain attractive where the throne of God is empty." This is one of the reasons why the extremist Filipino students are willing to follow the Revolutionary myth of the Aquino's dynasty that will nourish them with opium. It may be a fact that the former administration of Aquino's clan failed to give the oppressed Filipino people the long awaited justice for the cruelty inflicted by the Marcos regime. Why? "Communist justice, charity, equality, so on & so forth will never allow its apologists & enemies an honorable death." I think it is foolish & a naked ignorance on the part of Andanar to prefer Communism [the authority of a single man or one party] than the wisdom & gradual public deliberation of democratic or republican or parliamentary system.
