The President has no so-called Plan B if ever his strategy on Plan A fails him. He's burning his bridges so that even "advancing to the rear" is no option anymore. His vision for the nation, it seems, is based anger and revenge by offending friendly nations and embracing new alliance with strange and fearful ideologies.

Criticism of a public official is an inherent part of our democracy. We embrace the right and freedom of speech. These extra judicial killings are becoming more frequent and getting out of control. Jails that are now manned by SAF could not even provide security and safety to our prisoners. Phils. is a democratic country and if you don't want to be criticized don't run for public office. An IDIOT leader should not be elected.

People killed while legally confined are incapable of protecting themselves against anyone who wish them harm. Their hands are practically tied and are stripped of their rights; they may fight back for their lives but that doesn't mean they have to be shot in the back or murdered while defenseless. People will be wondering who's next in line. We understand we have people out there who are HIGH on drugs and the so-called law-enforcers are HIGH on their heels executing order, but don't we think it's HIGH time to start solving these problems the right way?

There are PHIL-AM members all over the U.S. who are alarmed of what is going on about these extra-judicial killings. These members are doing their best to change the current situation.

I think he allowed his foreign policy be defined by a petty old grudge with the US, when the US did not issue him a US visa.

Our friendship with America should remain; however, the American government should realize that we cannot afford anymore to have our country as the battle ground as it happened during the Second World War because we already learned the bitter experience that after our loyalty in that war fighting side by side with the Americans in defense of freedom, we were regarded as Third Country Nationals with no hope of truly enhancing our desire for supports. On the contrary countries in the world that have no historical bond with America in war and in peace are being strongly supported by America. Enough is enough of this relationship. The Philippines must pursue its destiny towards being friends with all countries in the world.

(Con't) President Duterte is right to search for supports even with countries of different ideology in building our infrastructures so we can solve the problem of unemployment. The American government officials should read the history of the Orient and the history of the Philippines if our two countries can still be maintained that old friendship, which is doubtful because Americans will be supporting countries only when she believes that there are good things that the American people will be benefitted. Yes nothing can the USA get from the Philippines because we are a poor country but not of our own making, and so we must change our ways in searching for progress among nations by being friendly with all nations in the world.

According to the editor [PNL], "if the Philippines is to continue to thrive ..." The author of this article must realize that the "habits of democracy" you practice every day are not confined in international political system [or "a null political system]. Why? Democratic practices like treating our fellow human beings or foreigners or speaking up among foreigners or 'aliens' about justice & injustice; racism & bigotry, or as equal or identical can be learned at home; they can be fostered by associations of civil society, so on & so forth. How can Filipinos develop a habit of speaking up against racism, or speaking up in the face of daily suffocating corruption & injustice in their every endeavor? What are the bedrocks of democracy, in terms of re-building public trust? I do agree that "the positive evils of corrupt government are bound to fall heaviest upon the poorest & least capable Filipino people." I think it is insanity or a delusion to expect the Republic of the Philippines to cure its self-inflicted crimes by injecting more extreme democratic values into its veins: "more extreme democratic habits means more crimes, more drug trafficking, more corruption, more extreme poverty, so on & so forth."

I believe we should always speak the truth to power, so as a long time visitor to the Philippines I am greatly concerned for the Filipino people of whom I have generally the highest regard. I must say I have been in a state of utter shock since the election of President Duerte, and I served with the US Peace Corps in the Philippines during the Martial Law period of President Marcos. President Duerte's blatant disregard for basic human rights; as demonstrated through his official and unofficial policy of EJK, an acronym that will now live in infamy thanks to him. Secondly by his ignorance regarding the American people whom he derides repeatedly. And thirdly by his rudeness towards the leaders and institutions of various nations and organizations that have always been friendly towards the Filipino people. Clearly he has too much personal baggage to lead the Philippines towards a stable and prosperous future. His over active imagination is guided only by his lack of information. His knowledge of history is appalling; he acts on instinct based on perceived racism. It’s OK to disagree with others but not to be disagreeable.

(Con't) President Duerte both disagrees without foundation and is disagreeable in doing so. I can only imagine that he surrounds himself with sycophants, yes men, lackeys and gophers. He is destroying whatever ethical behavior there was within the police and undermining the military leaders of the Philippines. He has reduced the foreign affairs ministry to street sweepers that follow behind him sorting through his words trying to make sense of chaos. He carries around a list of so called drug lords, but doesn't bother to seek warrants for arrest; but uses it like a club to instill fear in any that might oppose him. I can only fear for the Philippine loyal opposition as they could easily find themselves on his list, their character destroyed and their personal wealth frittered away defending themselves against his use of the media to destroy his enemies. Americans believe, and it wouldn’t hurt for your President to believe also, that a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and no one is above the law. One day he will give an account to God for more than just the epithets he throws around.

The greatest enemy of the Filipino is himself; to not know who he is and what he is capable of doing. Give him self-respect and he will conquer; give him wisdom and he will contain unrest. I am hoping for more positive articles from your end; be critical but not to the point of derision. It's high time we rebuild our nation and chart our path to the height of greatness that our forebears once imagined.

I have lived in Canada for 48 years now. When I first came to Canada, I befriended the Caucasians because I can only learn quickly about their culture and language by not associating too much with the Filipinos. Never in my life have I felt inferior to any race. Duterte and his followers may think so because they have not been to USA or Canada. Americans and Canadians are the most generous people in the world. A person gets discriminated generally because of character and not its color. Duterte does not speak for the majority of Filipinos. WE HAVE SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR THE AMERICANS for teaching us the universal language and Filipinos are at advantage over many immigrants because of that. Americans or Canadians are very courteous people contrary to the belief of Duterte. May God protect the Philippines from her foulmouthed president.

I am embarrassed as a Filipino living in Canada for all the tirades of Duterte to the American president, the EU, and the United Nations. Duterte is an ignorant man. He finished high school in 7 years. High school in the Philippines is only 4 years. This guy is the most idiotic president in the world who knows nothing but killing people without the due process of law, yet he finished law. Recently, he said God spoke to him to stop cussing or God will bring down the plane but it was the pilot who spoke to him. He is not only a psychopath, he has schizophrenic disorder and need to be taken to a mental hospital.

Yes, I can still see that kind of trait among first generation Pinoys who have been in the US for so many years now. In gatherings they congregate together in groups or tables with their fellow Filipinos speaking their own dialects and telling Filipino style jokes, instead of seating randomly with other nationalities, especially Americans. They are the problems you're talking about.

Yes we Filipinos, the way we are now, generally speaking, have too much to learn in relating to other nationalities. We tend to view ourselves as subordinates to fair skinned and fair-haired people instead of interacting as equals. Caucasians are highly open-minded people as they react to others on a nickname or first name basis regardless of race, whereas, we Filipinos would habitually address them as sir or madam not necessarily out of politeness or respect but more or less the way we regard ourselves as brown skinned, shorter in stature, and perhaps less cultured.

I think if the president wants his people to have the best resources he shouldn't be saying "Go to hell" to the American president. We have good resources too that many Philippians have excised, and can in the future.

Plenty of us want to be whom we are not and incapable of being in another shoe. So we crave for some things that are foreign: beauty, clothing, shoes, food, jewelry, wealth, personality, manner of speaking a foreign language, just to name a few. All these stuff that we can gain access to to gain a semblance of having been in some other places other than our own country. We don't have great admiration for our own whether it's food or beauty enhancing products. The problem is that none of us can be white or Caucasian in skin color. (By saying that I mean no Filipino wants to be darker than being brown). Despairingly, we sulk and behave like we are inferior in height, in color, in appearance, or body smell unless, of course, you have that mixed blood, possesses an actor personality and have lots of money to burn. It's no wonder why we have numerous problems in the country being caused by none other than us. To a Filipino, to be white, blond, tall and good-looking with a fat wallet is better than being who she/he is.

Duterte's recent statement has to be the most ridiculous... It goes, "The Filipinos in America are not Filipinos anymore, they’re Americans. Their attitude is American." My reaction: America is a country of countries, a people of all people from all over the world.. In order for Duterte to say such a sweeping statement, He must first EDUCATE himself about America and as well as the Philippines. Now, Who does he think he is in saying All Filipinos in America should no longer be considered Filipinos? Just who does he think he is? What power does he have to make such a declaration? He is not a King... but he is already acting like a cheap dictator. Just three months into office, not only he has the blood of thousands of Filipinos with no provisions of a fair trial and humane opportunities to prove their innocence.. Just three months into office, He is already drunk with power. Duterte has become the Jerk of the Century and the Filipinos who voted for him? The dumbasses of modern history.

A Liar? "Baka akala nito, I took AB Foreign Service. Check it out in Lyceum. Political Science, then I add another one because I had an accident sa motocross accident, one of the many, so na-late ako ng isang semester. So my extra time, I took Foreign Service — Consular practice and procedure, geopolitics, world trade, international trade, baka akala ninyo." FACT Records obtained by VERA Files showed Duterte is not listed as an AB Foreign Service graduate. A copy of Lyceum University’s 1968 commencement exercises showed Duterte was among its Bachelor of Arts graduates. The same document had a roster of Bachelor of Science of Foreign Service (BSFS) graduates. Duterte’s name is not on the list. My Reaction: SINUNGALING!

There are only a few people who don't see anything wrong on what Duterte is doing. They think bashing USA, EU, and the UN is asserting the country's independence of foreign influence In fact, the country isn't really self reliant. We even import our rice, durable products and depend on almost all of western technology , We import more than we export. We raise our capital needs from foreign investments and borrowing. Duterte is leading the country to the same destructive path as Hugo Chavez did to Venezuela.

People tend to judge others by so many things they see and hear. In our determination to give our families a decent ways of life we are willing to take any caregiver type jobs abroad. And the Chinese have heard and have seen it all. No wonder they call the Philippines a "slave nation". Are these the kind of people we are willing to gamble our nation and our lives with? Wait till the Soviets brand Filipinos as wimps and prostitutes. At least people in the United States still have some kind of respect for us; they know us better as hardworking and decent people than any other nationalities, especially the thieving Chinese..

I think the author of this article [Philippine-American Relations: Why we see other nationalities the way we do?] is ignorant of the meaning of the "politics of recognition." I think the essence of the search of status [or diversity] is a recurrent theme in American life. What is the essence of the "melting pot or Americanism?" I think the Filipino-Americans are familiar with the emergence of modern despotism in a democratic society, which is quite different from ancient despotism. According to a respected scholar, modern despotism pursues the vanquished into their existence, it maims them spiritually in order to force them to conform,"despite the promise of liberal democracy & the US Court [see intrinsic recognition] to protect people or individuals against discrimination & tyranny. The author of this article must educate himself/herself that every culture---even every virtue has it own enemies or detractors. Mistrust of other cultural identity can be a positive & negative attribute of liberal or pluralist or egalitarian society. I think the Filipino-Americans are devoid of the quality of "the racist mind." The minds [or characters] of the Filipino-Americans, even the Filipino citizens, have the capacity & ability to understand the complexity of democratic political deliberation [see the concept of public reason]. Of course, every culture understands that it is not easy to accept responsibilities or obligations from other countries or foreigners. I think the contemporary Filipinos are not ignorant of the this perennial warning to humanity: "We all carry within us our places of exile, our crimes & our ravages, but our task is not to unleash them on the world; it is to fight them in ourselves & others."

Kita nyu sino ang nag pasimula world news about Du30's reputation, sarili nating mamamayan?

The Politics of Memory by S. L. Mayuga [see Inquirer/Opinion 10/28/16. I think Mayuga must understand that President Duterte is aware that democracy is an unfinished business. I think President Duterte is a passionate politicians & a man of action: It is common knowledge that a politician who is devoid of passion & vision is like "a flint without which awaits the shocks of the iron before it can give forth it sparks." The author of this article fails to perceive what kind of Philippine democracy inside the minds of the Filipino voters. Does Philippine democracy affects the world of reality, in terms of its war on illegal drugs trafficking, war on poverty, & other crucial issues of our times? You don't need to be an intellectual to comprehend the critical issues of colonialism: "to understand the past which they came & the future towards they lead. If democracy is way of life, you must have faith in the possibilities of human nature---the belief in the less-fortunate Filipino people.

I am here again at Philnews.com My province Cagayan was hit by a Typhoon Lawain a very strong typhoon that hit both Cagayan and Isabela. I am very glad that lives of the people of Cagayan Valley as been spared. Only infrastructures had been damage and can be replaced. I am moving now to start asking all Filipinos around the world to help financially. A 10 Dollars contribution will go a long way. But this time only Filipinos will be involved as up to now after Typhoon Yolanda funds given by all the different countries can not be accounted for. 10 Dollars in the Min. and Max. Other nationalities will not be accepted unless they are married to a Filipino. The Circulo Cagayano Association of B.C. Canada will lead others Filipino Association here in B.C. Canada and will reach accross Canada and USA. Filipinos around the world will surely help. No politics and no religion will be involved. TANGLAW FOUNDATION will be in charge. North American Companies and Corporation will be joining me to help in the Infrastructure of trhe entire country. Drugs is a problem not only in the Philippines but Filipinos needs jobs. THAT IS MY BOTTOM LINE !!!! Comelec disqualified me to run as Candidate for Pres. of the Philippines but no one can stop me to help my mother country.

I don't understand why Marcos family is insisting LNMB as the final resting place of Apo Lakay Build a Marcos memorial where he was born as most US presidents do. It was only JFK who was interred at Arlington Cemetery as a naval officer. Dwight Eisenhower didn't go there even if he had the rank of a general.

Someone said, "It is common knowledge that you don't need to be a foreign service graduate to comprehend the nature of international relation or diplomacy." My reaction: Is it ok to lie just to make a point?" You are lost and crazy. Are you being a good example if you lie? Especially if you are the elected leader of the land? Duterte is exposed. I didn't expect it was going to be this easy... For sure.. He has a lot of blood in his hands..
