If Duterte's aims are to help the Philippines then he should be working to get the best from all sources. The USA, China, Russia, etc. Denigrating one just costs his country needed resources. I am married to a Filipina now for 44 years. Been to the PI several times. Love the people. Duterte is going to hurt the Philippines if he keeps going on this way.

Rodrigo Duterte does not deserve the presidency and should resign. This as*hole and son of a b*tch sold the soul of the Philippines and Filipinos to the devil. I don't quite understand the fanatical supporters behind this monster. This rotten and stupid animal should be brought to justice and thrown into the dungeon of wild beasts together with his evil cohorts. He thinks he owns the country and uses fear to control all Filipinos. It's about time this satanic act stop in the name of justice and civility.

I am growing weary listening to Duerte, his rudeness to others is exceeded only by his personal estimation of himself. Basically he is a legend in his own mind. While he is running around Asia demeaning Americans; Americans have been at work getting 26 hostages from Somalia repatriated to their home countries by the US based organization Oceans Beyond Piracy. There are also many American NGOs and private citizens contributing dollars to help the less fortunate in the Philippines. What has Duerte done? He has had his police and anyone with a gun kill people without due process. Something that all civilized nations practice.

Re: Duterte and Chinese hegemony...In the first quarter of the 20th century it was Japan who wanted to dominate the Asian countries..Japan basically annexed Korea to the extent of changing ofKOrean names to Japanese names..I spoke with a South Korean when I told him Japan occupies the P.I. for 3 years (1942 to 1945), he retorted back good for you Japan occupied our country for 30 years..Now it is China, it will be the dominant power in South East Asia, may be this is the reason Duterte prefers to be with the Chinese.. Mr. President just be careful your higher echelon military officials who were trained at West point for example: President Ramos among other prominent Filipino Generals.

The US will never allow the loss of its showcase democracy in the Far East for that will have a domino effect around the globe. It will never permit the RP to fall into communism due to weak resolve in protecting its interests in the Pacific Rim. Too dangerous these things to happen.

Someone said, "Duterte is protecting the office given to him by the Filipino people from the PAID MEDIA, Yellow politicians, USA Intervention that brought Marcos down." My reaction: In just three months in office, Duterte is already worried about elements or possible factors who might topple him down. Therefore, he is clearly not on the same page with people who believe in decency. Why is it ok for you Duterte fanatics for Duterte to insult other people including the pope while you revolt at the slightest revile against him? Just admit it guys, you put the wrong guy and you will suffer with this whacko for the next 6 years. For sure its going to be a roller coaster.. its going to be a lot of ups and down in Philippine politics but I really doubt if this guy will complete 6 years or even 3 years... He is not the guy who will fight for the interest of the Filipinos.

The Philippines has never been subservient to America. If ever Pinoys are sent to war in American wars is because we are showing our gratitude to America's help in liberating us from Japanese occupation. How many Americans died during the liberation? This is like America who sacrificed several hundred thousands American soldiers to help France during the two world wars primarily because France helped the fledgling American revolutionaries during their war of independence. This is gratitude which have been practiced by most governments even before the Roman empire. China and Russia were recipient of American military help during WWII but turned against America immediately after the war. This is Duterte"s foreign policy Chinese style. This no attempt at being independent of foreign influence. This is not patriotism but more of treason befriending China who has just grabbed Philippine territories. Duterte's Anti-Americanism is just a personal vendetta sine he was denied a visa by America twice. A 4-year old's mentality.

Re: Pres. Duterte--I read a newspaper report that he applied for a visitor's visa at the U.S. Embassy when he was still in college but the U.S. Embassy declined his application, .It would seem that he has never been to the U.S. This must have happened in the late sixties. The problem is he has made a generalization that the U.S.A is not really in good ally of the RP. In some sense he is right.. The USA used their power to impose their will even if it didn't look good. Just after WWII President Roxas went to the USA to asked for war damage money. The USA said we will give you the money but first you have to amend your Constitution and give American "Parity rights" Amendment. It meant that in the exploitation of Natural resources Mining, Timber Etc. Americans had same rights as Filipinos. The Parity Amendment ended in 1974.

Re: U.S Visa..President Duterte shared a story where a local official wanted to visit the U.S.A as he was invited by the U.S. government itself, however, this local official was denied. "Pero sila anytime. They enter the Philippines visa-free." Well there will always be a time for reckoning. Bakit hindi natin tablahin? "Duterte said and gave a faint smile. The South American Country Chile did that. When USA required Chileans to pay $100 to get a U.S. Visa. An American U.S. citizen is also required to Pay $100.00 for a Visa to visit Chile. Why can't the RP do that?. Very simple if you require U.S. Citizens to pay $100 to visit the P.I. you are actually hurting the Pinoys, because these are most of the P.I. Visitors.. Filipinos who are now U.S. Citizens. I don't think they would pay $100.00 to visit their relatives.

Re: Pres Duterte: .. He has high approval ratings, and many Filipinos continue to be killed daily. In the Western world drug addiction is an illness they are not summarily killed , addicts are allowed to go to rehab hospitals. Of course the P.I. is a 3rd world country if you are an addict you die. What a country, you are presumed guilty so you die immediately, a former President was so proud that she abolished the death penalty, only to be replaced by vigilante justice and no trial executions. And many Filipinos are proud of that, especially those who supported Duterte. The Bill of rights is really a mere scrap of paper.

I once said that Duterte is simply a Feudal Warlord who seems to get the attraction of the public misconception of his image as a strong leader.. I got it so right... and I will say it all over again. Duterte is a product of a feudal culture of our country where strength is falsely equated and associated with rogue actions and a marshal image. The Feudalism we inherited from the Spanish is the problem. This is the core of the problem why we continue to submit ourselves politically to the strong and the rich... The rich and powerful just have too much lands.. and too much power and influence... Unless we address and correct this bad practice, we will never move forward as a nation as our politics will be controlled by a few strong and influential families which is now causing not just poverty but illiteracy... No wonder we now look on Celebrities and Political Warlords to run for office.. we never looked on ourselves as a people to deliver our say.. we look on decency as a weakness and we take criticism from civilized nations as interference.. Duterte is feudal warlord. Now he is also a closet tyrant and dictator. It also turned out that he is a leftist ideologue.

Re: President Duterte's Position on the USA.. It just shows how inexperienced he is as a President. First he says he wants the US Military out of Mindanao. Then he realizes that the USA doesn't say Yes, Mr. President. He should realize by now that the U.S. is not here to protect the P.I. from Chinese aggression in claiming all small islands, but if you look at the map Brunei where the Shell oil has vast operation is also being protected by the US

I don't think the USA will eventually bow to China. Why? As long as Americans will remain free they will take seriously the lessons of history & the ideas of their Founding Fathers. "Free people, remember this: You may acquire liberty, but once lost it is never regained."

PNL, let me quote you on your informative article, "....America, at some point in time, will bow to China and Duterte’s decision to choose China over the U.S. would be heralded as a truly brilliant one. If he is wrong however, he will be forever ridiculed or worse." My reaction: I respectfully disagree. If China antagonizes America, all it takes for America is do is quite simple, Stop buying Chinese goods and substitute Chinese labor with Singapore, Philippine, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc... If China can't even handle a certain Loida Nicolas Lewis when this lady started the boycott china movement, What more when the boycotting measure is formalized by the American legislature or simply put, The American way of life? Who buys the Chinese goods now? and just what happens to their economy when the dollar collapses, their Yuan also collapses.. In China's favor, they will probably get the natural resources of the Philippines (but that will not be without local resistance) particularly the local oil. But just who would enterprise with the Chinese if push comes to shove? Duterte is playing with fire. The Chinese too. America plays fair as always but if you force Uncle Sam to play "hardball," I don't think anyone would be ready for it.

Someone said, "The Philippines is not observing the ways of the lawless; it is that the lawless choose to fight the changes that the administration of Pres. Duterte are implementing to obey the will of the Filipino people and the lawless are paying for it." My reaction: You think so? Tell me, about those drug addicts who were eventually killed, was there a single warrant of arrest rendered against them? Would you surrender yourself to a group of cops who are trying to arrest you without any warrant? So if you fight, you get killed because you are resisting right? That simple. So tell me, who is playing tricks here? Who then, is violating the constitution?

Someone said, "He spread throughout the country what he will do to the criminality of all kinds if people will elect him to be their President. They have spoken so, again, he is implementing their will. The people have their chance to reject his plan." My reaction: Did he tell the people that he will arrest people without warrants? Did he tell people that will kill indiscriminately? Is Killing going to recover the economy? Please tell me, Why is he killing impoverished people who have no access to the law while big time drug lords gets to live with their lawyers? Hmmmm.....

Someone made a comment on the given article. It goes, "The author of this article seems to present his own version of facts as immediate & future oriented.." My reaction: The author presented facts that were already on the local newspapers and editorials... So how is that you say the author merely created his own facts or false details? Just because you are now having a hard time accepting Duterte as a political whacko, a clown, a buffoon and most of all, a socialist pinko for that matter, Doesn't give you the right to say lies about editor of the website.

I would like to comment on a certain participant in this forum. I believe he is from Taft. Anyway, he voted for Duterte as he claimed this guy has a leadership that of a typical Republican. He has the leadership that will bring positive changes to the country.. He believes this is the guy who can face the Chinese over the Spratlys.. As it turned out, Duterte is selling out to the Chinese.. and actually admitted that he is subscribing to the "ideological flow" of China and Russia.. At one point He said, China, Russia and the Philippines against the World.... So here is my question to this guy from Taft, I believe his name is mokonggmaya... Just who is the idiot now? On the front he is willing to give up the Spratley's, on the sides he has killed more than 4000 people drug abusers without trial... You now have a police force that is trigger happy just like the Metrocom-Martial Law days...

Someone said, "Remember that President Duterte's speech expresses a political identity: "Political identity emerges as people align themselves with the political actions of specific word." My reaction: A political identity that tolerates mass murder, killings and more killings, and total disregard for the constitution. A political identity that equates strong leadership with guns, goons, and gold. Anyway, dumbass, why be concern about your identity when the process identity will take care of itself? Champion the weak, the poor and the marginalized! That is the political identity our country needs.

Re: The conduct of foreign affairs by Fr. R. Aquino [see MB Opinion, posted 10/24/16]. According to Fr. Aquino, international relations are not about states ultimately, but about how who head & lead them." It is common knowledge that international relations is an important element of Political Science. There is a perennial argument whether international politics or system is capable of becoming just & harmonious without IR or international actors views of world politics: Realism & Idealism. In The End of History & The Last Man, Francis Fukuyama suggested that the world had reached the end of the ideological line [see the collapse of the Soviet Union, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the nation-states, & the triumph of liberal capitalism]. I don't think that the nation-states as legitimate providers of security will wither away in an era of globalization. I think there are many signs that the states will be the major actors in IR [see the revival of the radical approaches in organizing human behaviors]. Social democracy is not doomed [see the revival of social democracy in Europe & elsewhere].

(Con't) I do agree with Fr. Aquino that there are efforts to counterweight the aggressive behaviors of international leaders, for example, the emergence of international co-operation, or global justice or internationalism, so on & so forth. Moreover, we can't assume that ideology is the culprit in the emergence of welfare state or social democracy. I think it is not impossible for President Duterte's administration or the Republic of the Philippines to have peaceful & humanitarian relations with other states, or between nation-states, or within the nation, or relations between ideological factions, & so on & so forth. Remember that some political scientists predicted in the 80s that nationalism would be dead, but it came back with a boomerang. It may be a fact that the dynamism of ultra-nationalism is not going away. What is the cure? How can human beings as "both rational & irrational animals" will not make human reason as a mockery? I think Fr. Aquino, as an educator, is aware that rational enterprise is not devoid of problems & contradictions: "It is a precarious activity."

Someone said this statement criticizing the PNL author of the article, "Again, an intellectual with a wounded pride, attaches himself [or he is willing to share his prejudices without intellectual labor], passionately to the values represented by his group.... Why do you think the author of this article will not modify his though patterns & judgment?" My reaction: You are really one dumbass. It is you who has the wounded pride.. as your idol duterte has gotten so exposed as a closet dictator.... Anyway, please shorten your statements and be direct to the point. Secondly, improve your diction because you are using too much terms that are not related.. You give a lot of headaches to your readers.. Third, the Editor is entitled to his own opinion for as long as he supports it with facts he gathered for the convenience of the reader... Now, here is the gist of what I am saying... If you still find it hard to accept that Duterte is not a man of democracy but an agent of tyranny, a closet dictator and quite frankly, someone who is out of his mind, then one can easily conclude the similarities of your feathers with that of this whacko.. The Man prides himself as a communist... and don't you sugarcoat it.. He intends to flourish the Chinese and Russian ideological flow to our shores... and these are his words.. What a royal dumbass.

Spin, Spin, Spin, Spin......That is what the Duterte team is doing endlessly to repair the spewing, venomous, tactless statements of Duterte himself (whom by the way, i think has a great resemblance with Ving Rhames). So the question is, up to how long can "Ving Rhames" run his mouth? and up to how long his administration lackeys will spin it? Here in America, I feel very embarrassed and ashamed whenever i am confronted with questions about this kanto-boy poltician. I simply say, I no longer consider myself Filipino for as long as that serial killer, closet tyrant, socialist pinko is still the President.. Plain and simple. If President Corazon Aquino, his son PNoy, along President Ramos and all the stalwarts who succeeded in toppling the dictatorship of Marcos are to be commended for their achievements... I have to say were back to zero now..

(Con't) Nothing was achieved. If there was, then why are we back to a more worse situation than before? People are still hungry and the political situation has gone more primitive than ever? If there was anything we achieved in the past in the name of democracy.. They are all gone and wasted now... Because the same democracy brought us this terrible, horrible monster character. We restored democracy, we abused it, we killed it...You now have a narcissist, ego maniacal, mad killer for a President who has yet to convict a drug lord amid about 4000 deaths and counting... What a disastrous democracy the Philippines must have... and this brings a lesson, Democracy only thrives with the brave, the informed and educated, not with people who merely settles for survival alone.... Unless the Feudal nature of our society is addressed and corrected, Duterte will just part of a vicious political cycle....

(Con't) and its going to get worse before it gets better.. Not because of the stong and aggressive but because of the weak and uninformed and most of all, the people who refuses to be informed.... Only in just three months, Duterte is already acting drunk with power... He acts like a King who is challenging everybody including the Supreme Court.. How much more in 6 years? Could we still call our country, a country around that time? Those who voted for him simply committed one thing.. They fucked up. Big Time and the funny thing is.. Nothing will ever happen because we are a people who can't learn from History. It may be upsetting to read what i just wrote but I really don't care... We are a f*cked up nation... How else will you put it.. without spin of course...

Re: Duterte a foreign service graduate? [see ABS-CBN Opinion: Ellen Tordesillas 10/28/16]. It is common knowledge that you don't need to be a foreign service graduate to comprehend the nature of international relation or diplomacy. A journalist once said that "it is not the answer that enlightens, but the question." I think every AB or BA or Liberal Arts or Political Science student knows that International Relations course is one of the critical elements of Political Science. And President Duterte knows that there is no single theory of international relations, for example, I think President Duterte is aware that the contest [or the fundamental question in IR] is not between political principle & expediency [or the morality or immorality of Philippines economic relations with Communist countries], but "one type of political morality & another type of political morality."

The controversy over the question whether or not the late Ferdinand Marcos, who caused so much suffering among Filipinos during his terms of office as president, is worthy be interned at LMB must be resolved now. In that respect, one government official is trying to make a motion to change the name of the cemetery from Libingan Ng Mga Bayani to Libingan Ng Maga Bayani At Mga Dating Pangulo (roughly translated). However, the controversy over Ex-President Marcos's internment is NOT the name of burial place; the real problem is that most if not majority of Filipinos are against it. Changing the name of the place or adding to it words to it just would not fly. Wait and see.
