The Filipinos need to wake up from this nightmare or they will suffer the same fate as the drug addicts and pushers. The killing is not the solution to the problem of drugs, but an excuse to establish absolute power. Why am I not hearing more protest against the EJK? What happened to the Catholic Church? What happened to the justice system? What happened to social welfare? I am so angry and saddened by this turn of events, that one man can turn democracy upside down and sow fear in all.

Re: Pres. Duterte's admission that he has killed A Filipino or Filipinos.. without due process in violation of the Ph Constitution.. There are so many lawyers in the Executive, legislative, and Judicial departments of the PH government. Are you not going to do something about it. You have a President who has openly confessed that he doesn't care about due process or the bill of Rights under the Constitution.. The Philippines is a member of the U.N. We promised as a member of the U.N. to protect basic human rights. So you are ruled now by a tyrant who doesn't care if he violates any law. Are you going to let him rule you for the next 5 and a half years? Lawyers and non-lawyers wake up don't allow a person who doesn't care about laws to continue on killing Filipinos. What has happened to people power?

I can only feel sorry for this woman's children who became orphaned at the very young age, but her husband chose the wrong path. We all should be responsible for the kind of life we chose.

The EJK in the Philippines is making Duterte relevant to the his rising popularity. The cleansing of criminalities bring enormous leverage for Filipinos to turn a blind eye to Duterte's admission of murder and execution of criminals. Needless to say, we are relieved that the drug war is handled "head-on" by the gov't. In doing so, it doesn't justify unauthorized killings as this will become an abuse of power by Duterte. On one note, Duterte is surely not a smart guy as he often wants to portray. His insignificant rants and poorly prepared statements will bring about his downfall. Talking about being humble and representing as President of the Philippines, he is a model to all Filipinos, but sadly, his arrogance, lack of maturity and being an idiot Visayan which he proudly brags about, he is nothing when his time is up. Nobody wants to hear you brag about murders you committed before, Use your time wisely, mayor. You have chosen to take the unconventional path, expect your own worst nightmare because you created the monster out of yourself. Arrogance has no place of being a true leader, you are truly a trash or basura. Nobody admires how tough you are.

Does President Duterte's promise to remove all American troops from the Philippines include the 17,000+ American soldiers buried in the Manila WWII cemetery? Or are American troops allowed so long as they are dead?

Atty. your a shame to the legal system when you are justifying what is utterly bad. choosing the lesser evil is absolutely better. if you don't stop the proliferation of drugs now , it will grow since its very addictive. have you tried shabu? if not you don't know the sheer addiction to it. Duterte is the only president offering his life and risking it too to do what's right and since it is really a very bad situation he needs to do bad things to correct it. my hero du30

The article argues that because the percentage of addiction is small it makes Duterte a liar that it will destroy the next generation of the country. the truth is that it is not directly the drug user or pusher who would be the sure cause of destruction but how they would corrupt public officials who are not drug user themselves, but protector and so what happens to the country with such situation. Corrupt public servants tolerating, protecting drug lords are the direct cause of how a country in the generation to come can be destroyed. I hope the writer of the article would contemplate on the fallacy of cause and effect before endeavoring on facts which are without logic. I hope he uses his intelligence as a lawyer to use correct judgment and sensible reasoning before he pronounced his malicious arguments.

I can't help but comment on this ridiculous and absurd statement, It goes, "White America..That is the goal of Richard Spencer a neo Nazi who copied Hitler's salute." My reaction: If that is goal, Why are you so affected by this clown? Is that the goal of the Republican Party? Is he even a member of the Party which is also the party of Ben Carson? If you think so, you're lost. Your comments are wild and baseless.. Do you know it was the Democratic Party, spearheaded by Margaret Sanger, experimented and manipulated human genetics like thoroughbred horses to create a superior race... and this means a white race that has nothing to do with blacks and so forth... You are so limited in your knowledge yet you are so quick to jump the gun... You think I'm making this up? Then research the name Margaret Sanger. By the way, Your hero Hilary Clinton idolized Saul Alinsky and Margaret Sanger. What does that tell you? LINK

Someone said this ridiculous and pathetic statement, "That is the goal of Richard Spencer a neo Nazi who copied Hitler's salute. The problem with this group is that they have a different reality. One example is California right now it is 50% White and 50% nonwhite.. " My reaction: California has always been a liberal state because of welfare. Simple as that.... However, when it comes to the point of leadership and strengthening the nation, Let me remind you that it was also California that produced a remarkable person and leader in Ronald Reagan. When Reagan won.. It was a landslide across the board and here you are dividing the whites from the non whites.. You are so pathetic. With your statement, racism is not coming from the whites.. Its coming from you.... against the whites!

Someone said this statement, "These neo Nazis believe that they can change the trend of nonwhites becoming the majority as the nonwhites are going to voluntarily leave the USA so that they the whites) will be the only race left in the USA.." My reaction: Like you said, They are neo Nazi's. I have to wonder however, why you are so concerned about them if you think you know better... Anyway, Do you know the Democratic Party has a horrible history FULL of racism? Check this article, LINK In this article, you may reflect on the following excerpt, "The Democrats were the party of slavery, black codes, Jim Crow, and that miserable terrorist excrescence, the Ku Klux Klan. Republicans were the party of Lincoln, Reconstruction, anti-lynching laws, and the civil rights acts of 1875, 1957, 1960, and 1964. Were all Republicans models of rectitude on racial matters? Hardly. Were they a heck of a lot better than the Democrats? Without question."... You clearly don't know what you are talking about the Republican Party. Read more at: LINK

Someone said, "There are bloggers in this forum who are ignorant of history. In 1882 the Republican controlled Congress passed the Chinese exclusion Act which was law until it was repealed in 1943." My reaction: Because of the Democrats welfare program you now have ghettos, Latino barrios, and so forth... There is something common among these depressed groups.. For one, they will rely on the government, Two, they will vote democrats... So who is the Party being racist now? Who is the party that tries to destroy the very spirit of the American Dream? Who is the party that convinces people they are powerless? Do the Math.

Re: Ad Hominem attacks-- There is a blogger in San Diego who calls himself a mercenary and being short on reason resorts to ad hominem attacks. Just because I don't agree with him I lost my right to live in the USA. All I'm saying is the President-elect was not elected by majority of the voters.

Someone said, "Medicare & Social Security --Now that the GOP is in power there is a danger that the above-mentioned programs would be privatized...." My reaction: I believe its time for you to work and chart your own destiny.. It's time to stop depending on the government. It's time to stop enjoying benefits at the expense of the regular working individual. You, liberal dems, You approach life by expecting the government to provide welfare so they can be assured of their votes that will eventually put them to power. But there is a cost for welfare and that is the question. Should one contribute his hard earned money for someone who has not contributed to the society at all yet feels entitled? Nothing is for free for us conservative working men, Why should it be free for you liberals? Freedom and Liberty are virtues that will enable the individual realize his potential to provide for his own, be responsible for his life's direction and create his own destiny. In other words, Freedom gives every individual a chance to do better for himself, his society and the future.... You liberal democrats are the opposite. You want to be under the government's direction and decision. You want be just mere subjects of the government for as long as the government provides your basic needs. There is no dignity at that at all.

"Reading" by Kimberly Sanchez [Inquirer: Young Blood 12/22/16 @ 12:14 AM]. I think every Filipino or Filipino-American has received his/her first essential instruction [i.e., in critical reading, thinking & writing] or inspiration & desire for scholarship from his/her parents & Filipino teachers. My authoritarian Filipino teachers at Malinta Elementary School, Valenzuela, Bulacan had inspired me to read books as a poor public-school student. I am not a well-educated student of ideas, but I consider old books as my excellent teachers: they emancipated me from herd opinion, urbanity, capacity for self-criticism, suspended judgment, & so on. Remember that an educated person is not a mere creation of his own time, why? What makes a book liberalizing? What makes a book an enterprise or a journey or a goal? I think a best book is like an excellent teacher: "An excellent teacher is the seeker after truth among his pupils." I think we read books because it is a way of life. We can't change the world if we don't read books.

Your unwanted book could become another's life-long inspiration by Jenny Ortuoste [MS Opinion: Pop goes the world]. Lovers of books agree that "good books if taken seriously can transform a rotten culture." I think Atlas Shrugged by Alissa Rosenbaum, alias, Ayn Rand can be viewed as an anti-conservatism, why? It is common knowledge that Shrugged has elements of Rayn's economic-political philosophy. Shrugged is an explication of Rayn's Objectivist view [Objectivism] & a rejection of conservative view [conservatism]. The poet Alicia Ostriker says "that women should have babies rather than books is the considered opinion of Western civilization." I think a lover of books hates prejudice, bigotry, corruption, cruelty, violence, stupidity & folly. A lover of books keeps his balance; he works for peace & sanity: "He unmasks the lies of men [Chomsky, Noam]." I think every reader should read Barzun Jacques [The Paradoxes of Creativity]: "Critics complain that schools do nothing for creativity, because they are institutionalized...Democratic theory favors individualism even though democratic practice may repress it..." Moreover, I think every lover of books has read Joseph Eptein's essays, "A Few Kind Words for Envy: Well, though many an arraigned mortal has in hopes of mitigated penalty pleaded guilty to horrible actions, did ever anybody seriously confess to envy? Something there is in it universally felt to be more shameful than even felonious crime---Herman Merville." I think we can play with our ideas when we read books. We can smile at our weaknesses & ignorance. And we can discuss the affairs of the world @ Philnews.com with an open mind. Happy Holidays!

Re: Pres. Duterte's closer ties with China...I guess China will start remitting .U.S. dollars in the Billions once Duterte finalizes his change. For 2016 remittances of Overseas workers reached $27 Billion. I don't know yet where the money would be coming from as there are not that many overseas foreign workers working in China. Duterte just rejected $400 million from the Millennium Corp. which was already budgeted for use in the P.I. his complaint is there are many strings attached to aid from the U.S. For China they don't have strings attached to their aid..it will be attached to Cables.

Re: Duterte's Martial Law.. Dictators don't announce their intention to declare martial law.. It might happen when nobody is expecting it. If you notice that the regular opposition columns are suddenly silent, these writers might have already been detained or are in hiding. Or suddenly the Central Bank Governor can't be contacted. Filipinos you have to pay attention every minute of every day as your rights of free speech or any of your rights might not be there anymore. History repeats itself, remember 1972.

Re: Pres. Duterte's threat against Gov Tetangco of CB. The president actually extended the term of Gov. Tetangco as the term of CB Governor should have ended last month. It seems that the CB Governor is not following what Duterte is directing him to do. To expose Senator Delima from the alleged AMLAC violations.. Tetangco's term is supposed to fixed but the President appears to have lost confidence in the CB Governor..Will he resign? or will he fight it in court as his term is fixed by law.. Abangan..

I still remember the comics the American Propagandists distributed in Canbanua Primary School, Argao, Cebu. It showed a mountain of skulls with Mao Tse Tung on top. Now China is the richest country with its own AIRCRAFT Carrier and fighter jets. Without American aid. We will NEVER reach that level with American Aid.
