Well said article. I myself thought that he is the man because of his strong will. But I started to doubt him when he bad mouthed the Pope and more of so to Obama, and the EU. Further, I don't see any solid policy of his government about economy, peace and order, etc. but just a full of hatred in him. I get it when you likened him the dictator Hitler. I heard about Mayor Duerte of Davao and thought he might make a good candidate. But I never envisioned he would resort to death squads or allow summary executions. I expected him to use lawful means to get things under control; but he has completely failed to do so. So I have to agree that his behavior is psychopathic; further that I am more disappointed with the Filipino people that support his governance.

It is not a crime to be hooked on drugs. What is wrong is the selling or distributing shabu. Being a drug user is not a threat to society unless the user has committed felonious acts. Having a name in barangay list is a de facto death certificate. The law enforcement agency doesn't know the extent of addiction these suspects have. Most of these killings were on close encounter and the convenient excuse of the arresting policemen was the drug suspects were resisting arrests. Victims end up in the morgue instead on the OR. Communities that are drug infested could be drug tested before the residents because drugs leave traces on surfaces. Through this method we save lives. I have listened to news reports of warrants being served at 4:00 in the morning which is absolutely ridiculous. The suspects ended up dead. That is just one of the scenarios in the first 100 days. Daily and monthly killings related to drugs in Digong's war on drugs were no match to Colombia, Mexico, and even Thailand.

The President is on the right track in his goal to make life better for Filipinos. One can envision the good intentions there, however, His Excellency should be more careful in speech and his supposed intention to steer away from the US and his show of favor with China and Russia. Surveys already indicate that majority of Filipinos still overwhelmingly favor continuing closer ties with the US. This editorial is just mouthing the "value" of the West when it comes to handling criminality: from petty crimes to big time drug pushing to white collar. The editorial should recognized the Philippines is an independent democratic nation has its own sentiments and emotions different that of the West. It can not be expected to adopt the values of other country in the same token that the Philippines can not urge them to follow the lead of the Philippines. The Philippines is not observing the ways of the lawless; it is that the lawless choose to fight the changes that the administration of Pres. Duterte are implementing to obey the will of the Filipino people and the lawless are paying for it. President Duterte did not mislead the Filipinos. He spread throughout the country what he will do to the criminality of all kinds if people will elect him to be their President. They have spoken so, again, he is implementing their will. The people have their chance to reject his plan. Even those "suspected international Pinoy drug mules" had been warned by Duterte that it is impossible that they "don't know" they are carrying drugs so he declared to another country "execute...according to your law". He had been saying these over and over again during the campaign and during the first 100 days of his presidency that "I will kill you if you destroy the children and the next generation of this country". Or something like that. There is no turning back now. BTW, don't you worry he is not only making changes about criminality. The previous administrations are all corrupt and the entire country is in the beginning stage of being overrun by narco politicians. The elite political family dynasties that have lost their government seats and power and are now doing everything to bring down president Duterte.
